if people are going through the hassle of getting bits welded in wont a compensator be better/last longer than a flexi?

Interesting. How does that work then? Does it somehow allow movement without anything needing to bend?

You might possibly need a length of pipe welding in too, as it looks like they might be a bit shorter than a flexi.

Not sure how you'd manage for space if they all have those two springy bolts sticking out.

I had mine changed today. I can confirm that the following is the right part for at least the 1.9 16v:

The mounting bracket is different though, but the old bracket was perfectly fine and solid so was swapped over. The old one is much more substantial than the one that comes with it.

This was the best price I could find online for one that includes the gaskets: £48.95 including delivery. It arrived next day too. Photo attached.

I had it fitted at a local independent garage. Only one problem - it was rubbing on the sump. The mechanic said this is pretty common with aftermarket parts. They heated and bent it further away and it's fine. An excellent job well done, for which they charged a very reasonable £74.26 inc VAT.

So all sorted for the total of £123.21

The flexi joint on the old one was black and sooty from the leak. We had two regens while it was leaking, and it was pretty alarming (and smelly). It's also quieter now (the old one must have been leaking for ages).

It's made by this company...

hi peeps, i am about again :), ok i have a blowing flexi pipe, and reading here it appears critical for the running of the turbo etc, is this the right part for mine, 1.9 150bhp 2005 on a 55 plate, also the wife said the garage said the connection to the the DPF pipe has rusted solid but the mech said it did not look to bad, so worried in case it needs a new DPF as well. any help again gratefully received , will hopefully get this ordered tomorrow.. cheers folks :).

Yes, it's the "right" part, subject to having to bend it to avoid it rubbing on the sump. It might be easier/cheaper to get one that fits properly from another make instead of paying the extra tenner for them to force it into shape. Or you might be lucky and get a Eu:ROFLMAO:o one that does fit properly.

The rusting's pretty normal - any decent mechanic should be able to sort it out one way or another. Make sure they replace the bolts though, as the existing ones will be knackered.

The link I gave includes gaskets. Most don't - I think some just use setting goo instead, but my garage recommended gaskets. They are decent looking ones, with some metalwork, not just rubber washers, so worth the extra money.

Thanks for that :), got a Stainless steel one made up to order with all gaskets and fitted for £121 from http://www.longlife.co.uk/ , they also do DPF removal so she booked to have that removed in a fortnight, DPF and autos in rural areas are a bad idea imho, even on a motorway she is only 1800rpm at 80mph, and with RA changing manual is literally a pain..lol..,
that group appear to be all over the country so may be handy for other members, just take the car there so they can measure the parts and shape of your problem part and it will be made up in about a day..

ohh they are £400 +VAT for DPF removal and remap (complete removal and new Stainless section put in)

Longlife also get my/our full recomendation and support. Had a lovely CAT back stainless system made and installed on wife's Barchetta. Made a booking, arrived and they were ready. Chose our tailpipe design, noise factor, and performance / OEM set-up.

Simple, professional and quick. All made and bent to measure.

We had OEM level performance, (with a nice purr), and recieved a full receipt also detailing replacement OEM status.

While dealing with the whole alternator thing we noticed the the flexi pipe's blowing a bit.

Obviously keen to get this fixed with the minimum of hassle - has anyone used one of the "universal" style cut out / clamp in ones that you see on ebay or is it easier to replace the whole section?

The bolts look pretty rusted and without heat look like they'd be a challenge to remove.
