Hi there, my wife has a 2006 croma diesel and she has had a few problems but the one that we are experiencing at the moment is that they key fob does not seem to want to lock or unlock the car.

It will open with the actual key part of the fob then the locking system will work but first thing in the morning it will not work under any circumstances.

Can anybody help with ideas ?

We have changed the battery in the fob and it has been in the garage to check for moisture getting in to the main control unit but to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

hi there, yes we have the same problem with both keys, i dont know if it is a problem with the keys or the receiver unit. any help would be most grateful.

Check the main battery voltage in the car after it's been sitting for a while? Low battery voltage can cause random faults on these cars.

This might be normal, someone told me its mentioned in the manual and that at temperetures below -2c the car locks out the remote function as to not burn out or brake the frozen locks and you have to use the key in the lock to open the car. Never experienced this myself and also it doesnt make much sense but I guess it could be possible.

Glad it is not just us that have this damn problem, i spoke to the mechanic where I work and he suggested spraying the locks and in the key holes with WD40 and touch wood, it seems to have done the trick.
The doors have opened every time since doing this on cold and wet mornings so I would give it a try.

Hi,

And what exactly is the deal with the boot lock?

Mine won't open manually and it tends to only open with thte key fob if I first lock and unlock the main car?

Is it a software update needed?

Gaz

Hi John can I refer you back to doidonti. Get the battery checked out for dead cells etc.

Gazkelts yours could be a case of looking in the car's set up menu. I am sure there is an option in there re locking.

You can definitely change the boot opening criteria on the settings button by the fog lights.

I was baffled by mine, until I found it by accident

Reading this with interest- a thought has just crossed my mind. Is the car parked on a slope?
The alarm system on mine can be set up using the switches on the light unit above the mirror. One is for the anti lifting alarm , if this is on then parking on a slope may affect this. Not sure what the angle is but you can turn it off with the switch and see if the problem goes away.:chin:

I had exactly the same intermittent thing with mine when we bought it years ago. I can't remember the details - I think it would only unlock if you did unlock-lock-unlock. We did oil everything but it made no difference - the car was under 3 years old at the time.

Ours was cured by (believe it or not) a software update. It had to be done by the dealer, but it was fine straight after and has been fine ever since.

So it might be worth paying over the odds getting your next oil change done by a Fiat dealer, and ask them to check for software updates while it's there. Hopefully that way they won't charge you for it. I think it was the body computer that was updated.
