Technical little squeak when auto box changes up

I joined Vectra-C a while ago. No issues. Check your spam filter.

It might be a bit hasty to replace the EGR due to a noise though - diagnosis would be worthwhile.

You can monitor the EGR position with fiatecuscan while you rev it, to check whether it's opening and closing. I don't know whether it monitors required or actual EGR position though - hopefully the latter, as otherwise it'd be useless.

P.S. eLearn works perfectly for me - there's something wrong with your copy or the computer setup. Try burning it onto a CD and/or test it on another computer. I find the instructions pretty good, if a bit over-thorough at times (which is better than too brief).

well i found it, i didn't look as sooty as some others, but if i press the pin in (on the electric half) with my finger it gets stuck in, but if i press it in using the other half of egr it don't get stuck is that normal?

It should move freely when finger pressing, if not it needs to be dissasembled per vec C procedure or at very least drill the 3mm hole on top and shoot carb cleaner at the rod and get it to move freely then some wd 40 and then seal with silicone.

If there's any soot in the right-hand half (the solenoid, inside the cover) then IMO it's pointless cleaning it as the seal's gone. Chuck it and buy a new one.

Those look right to me, especially the first one. Z19DTH is the Vauxhall engine code for the 16v 150BHP engine (what I often search ebay for, after ticking the "Search Description" box). If that's the engine you have then fine.

I've read of people cleaning both sides and making it immaculate, but IMO it's pointless if the seal's knackered. I had a look at mine a year after it was replaced and it's black in the left part, but shiny and spotless inside the solenoid.

Personally, I believe cleaning a knackered EGR valve is a pointless exercise, especially if you drill it. The pressure in the mucky half is higher than atmospheric. If you drill a hole in the solenoid half then it will forever spew sooty air into it via the knackered seal.

They've updated the design at least once, so hopefully they've worked out how to make them last longer than the originals now.

55-65 quid on ebay is a better price i have seen on ebay for these in the past, check vauxall prices

There are also a few independent vauxhall parts websites, worth a google for. Vauxparts is one, but there are others.

Once you get the VX part code from somewhere, you'll be able to search for the part directly.

that first auction says Vauxhall Part Number 55215031

Mine had a Vauxhall 55215031 unit fitted c/w a FIAT 55225287 gasket - & currently been good for some 16K miles. The 031 I believe was £76 inc shipping off eBay around early 2010.

I got a used one a while back that was cleaned up and have been swapping them every 6 months for a clean one. They get a bit sooty and start binding @ that time and I just switch it out for the clean one. No issues with drilled hole or anything else with using a used one. The other side doesn't get sooty but binds because of corrosion and lack of lubrication. I would clean your existing one, can't hurt to try, you can always order a new part later.

Mine's been fine for 2 years since it was replaced. I'm hoping they've sorted out whatever the problem was, probably not though.

I gave the boost sensor its annual clean today - it was proper grotty. This is a very worthwhile 10 minute job.

I think the real problem is the crap from the exhuast going back round to be burnt again. Does it really take the gas from the exhaust before it goes through the soot filter (DPF)? It's a bloody stupid design.

I got the new egr from fiat for £91 inc 2 gaskets and a plate with 3 holes in, fitted it then went for a quick test seems lots better :)

when i was doing it i noticed this pipe looks like there some thing missing off it?

Its not the clearest picture but you circled the rubber hose(the smaller one) which runs from the bosch ap sensor above down to bellow the car to the DPF. If that is not attached there will be immediate fault light (i know I had it rotten rubber hose in the cat area too much heat). So if you have no lights then surely DPF has been tampered with (disconected). This does not have to be a bad thing, the car might run better without it but as with any used car I suggest you do a thorough exam @ a competent car garage to know what you are dealing with. As for the boost sensor it is slightly to the left and below the EGR sticking out with a black plastic loom with a yellow clip. Single Torx 30 bolt, pull out spray carb cleaner, don't stick anything into the sensor, just carb cleaner maybe soft brush if it is really dirty, return and tighten the bolt well. My screw fell out from engine vibrations because I only hand tightened it so I had to put a different one in.
