Freemont - it looks soooo good!!
There saying there is going to be 2 diesel to start with a manual Box's
But later 4wd
AND a nice big 3.2 v6 in it too Shame it's only strapped to an Auto Box, most likely the Dodge Automatic box tho

Even though i like 4x4 i dont like peugoet's that much - plus the car rolls around alot

Still in a courtesy car and this happened 2 weeks ago. Beware 3008.

Re: Which car would you prefer as a replacement for the Croma?

There are very few cars better for us now than our 1.9 16V Eleganza.

Credible replacements:
1. facelifted Alfa 166
2. another very early Alfa 164

or
3. current Maserati Quattroporte
4. Lancia Thema
5. Lancia Flaminia Berlina
6. Fiat 130 Saloon

Better start badgering Fiat then

The Freemont will not be sold in the UK following its debut at the Geneva motor show in March, although Fiat says it "will re-evaluate this in the future". European sales begin in June.
Is it me or does the 3008 look like a wide mouth frog that's got a half ar5ed copy of the Bravo's rear end ?

A man with exquisite taste. I am just about to get a Thema S3 3.0V6 station wagon. One of 20 made. It wont replace the croma but can't wait. I was looking at Flaminia PF Coupes until reality hit home!

Re: Which car would you prefer as a replacement for the Croma?

My dream Croma replacement (that isn't going to actually happen) would be the Skoda Yeti. A good all-rounder, just like the Croma, plus 4WD and a more van-shaped back end, and prettier than the Croma too.

And I liked it long before Clarkson raved about it on Sunday.

Re: Which car would you prefer as a replacement for the Croma?

The electrical gremlins in Peugeots are well documented, my mate bought a new one, it was a nightmare from day one so he dropped it and bought Japanese. As for me, the Freemont looks a bit too much like the GM model it's based on, the looks are not to my taste but that's a personal view. For me I would replace my Croma with the new Ford Grand Cmax, it's on a well proven platform with the space I like. Alternatively I like the idea of a big luxury car such as the Land Rover Discovery 4 but I fear the running costs would be prohibitive even with my staff discounts.

That's the thing: we may have had problems with our Cromas, but I would never buy French. Just imagine: it's Friday pm and Jean Claude comes back from his lunch of a bottle of vin rouge with a side order of garlic and starts to build cars again.

That could be your 3008 that could. (BTW, before anyone starts this is not racism - they are Europeans just like me; it's xenophobia)

But seriously I heard that PSA cars have an electrical system where one wire does more than one thing (supposedly to cut costs). It's fine when it works, but if it goes wrong it's an absolute b*st*rd. Electricity gremlins in Puegeots and Citroens are well documented which is not good when their cars seem to rely on so much electrical wizardry.

I had a Peugeot 307 when they came out firstů what a nightmare!!!
It was at the garage more often than not with various problems, I vowed never to even contemplate buying another Peugeot, that was my experience anyway!

Have to agree with "Doofer" the "Yeti" looks like a good machine

Re: Which car would you prefer as a replacement for the Croma?

That Freemont does look like the natural successor to the Croma. Very nice looking. It is American though, which probably means it's huge on the outside and tiny inside. And the dashboard will be made out of yogurt pots.

26mpg - not bad for a yank tank! Should be better with a Fiat diesel though.

I've read that it's coming to Europe, but unlikely to be coming to the UK - I guess Fiat still remember the failure of the Croma on this snobby, brand-obsessed island.

Re: Which car would you prefer as a replacement for the Croma?

Thats US mpg, they have a smaller gallon, would be nearly 30 over here.
I had a look at the Yeti specs, and they have made it a 3rd of a ton heavier than the croma.
I need an Auto, but the little yeti would seem a bit gutlless after 200 bhp. And I like the Aisin 6 speed. Croma might well be my last car, possibly not worth changing the cam belt at 5 years old?

I like the taller position, but not too keen on the 4 WD monster style.

My previous car was a "soft roader", so the Croma was a bit lower for me. I find it downright odd sitting in conventional cars these days though. Being over 6 foot tall, I'm happy to not have to sit on the road with my knees next to my ears. So it would have to be a people carrier or 4WD-type to get the "sitting on a chair" position like the Croma. I've no need for a people-carrier, so the 4WD type would be my choice.

I'd be happy to go down a notch in size - the other half does complain about parking the Croma. The Yeti does look like it fits the bill for me.

The Yeti is 1340kg - I think the Croma is 1520kg from memory.
