Norfolk, oh argh.
Hi guys,

Newbie here looking to buy a Croma. Can anyone offer up some advice. I'd like a high spec 1.9 diesel (150bhp) with a manual box. I don't Minn traveling, I'm in Norfolk.

I've been looking at a couple of Seat Altea XL's today then I remember the Croma, I know what great cars Fiats are, I've had 5. Plus they offer great value too.

Reading the thread on specs below, I see someone's mentioned a "new" 1.9JTD with leather for £4k....really, got anymore details.

Is there anyone close to me with a Croma I could have a peek at.

Cheers.

What's your location?

I believe Desira have two Eleganza available - one at the Yarmouth site, & one at Bury St Edmunds site.

55 1.9/16v 150hp Prestigio

Go for the diesel, preferably the 1.9 16v (the 2.4 only comes as an auto). The petrol engine cars seem cheap but they are horrendously thirsty around town. This I imagine would not be good when travelling around the narrow lanes of Norfolk.

Eleganza or Prestigio spec gives you climate control, cruise control and better seat materials over the Dynamic. Also the 16" wheels on the Dynamic look a bit weedy (in my opinion).

You should find a nice average mileage car in this spec for £4k to £5k.

Here's a few to consider:

This 06 car has only done 3,000 miles (yes 3,000)

If you are looking at Seat Altea's, then presumeably you have up £8k at least to spend.....

So, you have the pick of any Croma out there. As previously said, avoid Dynamics. Avoid petrols unless you really want petrol. Eleganza trim is all you really need - Prestigio gives you not a whole lot more, unless a previous owner has specified leather (fairly often) and sat nav (not often at all!). Prestigio gives you the funky looking glass roof but apparently it can be trouble and arguably not worth the grief as the cars get older.

In saying that, very little price difference between dynamic to prestigio, and it is a buyers market as they are hellish to sell. So research what you would ideally like and hold out for it.

Best of luck

It's a lovely car, but too expensive despite the low mileage. I'd rather have the 06 Prestigio + leather with 90k miles for exactly half the price.

Who the heck buys a car then does 750 miles per year? It's cost about £4 per mile in depreciation alone. Then there are servicing/insurance/tax costs. A taxi would have been a fraction of the price.

I'd only pay about £5500 for it though. It will still have a rusty exhaust / leaking rear wiper and possibly further issues resulting specifically from a lack of use (e.g. pitted brake discs for a start).
