Hi All. I have an 8v Eleganza manual and am getting around 45 - 47mpg - i live inthe sticks with little traffic. I would really like an auto Croma, as I hate gearchanging!

So my question is, all of you (all 20 or so no doubt!) - what do you get from your autos. Both 16v and 2.4s. A 2.4 would be great but I suspect a 1.9 is more on the cards.

Thanks in anticipation.

I rarely drive in traffic, but mostly journey 10 to 20 miles on A roads. I get 40 mpg overall, during the 3 or so mile warmup about 30. Hilly routes would use more.
I used to get 30 out of the 8V thema turbo with about 190 hp, however driven, mostly enthusiastically.

Please note that Keith has a 2.4 auto. I have too, and it ranges between 38 and 42 depending on weather, traffic and tyre fitment.

Hi I have a 1.9 16v auto (would not go back to a manual now)

On a run with the cruise set at 78 (real speed 74) I can easily attain 45mpg.

Around town it is not so clever (due to all the stop start traffic, which means more torque converter slip), around the 31-33 mpg mark is typical.

However, bear in mind this is a big car. My manual Rover 75 1.8 turbo only used to return 35 and 23 respectively.

Thanks Chaps. I would expect the auto to be much the same on a run (I'm optimistic) and the town economy to suffer with the auto. As I say I live in the sticks, so not a lot of stop/start (why the auto then!). Used to autos with various large engined petrol things which I have eventually moved away from courtesy of daft fuel prices and road tax. Ideally a 2.4 prestigio with cloth trim and sat nav would do the job, but very few Cromas, very few Prestigios, and fewer 2,4s, and fewer with cloth and sat nav!!! So, odds aren't great. To be honest, the Eleganza has all you really need so an auto one of these would be fine.

Fun looking for the right one though!
