Just had the 'change oil' and red 'oil can' light come on today. I service my own car but have not had the reset done at the dealer. Has anyone actually reset the light using the cable/software and if so which cable (make/source) was used. Thanks

FiatECUScan (fiatecuscan.net) can do this with a simple KKL interface cable. I've seen it on the menus and is a supported option but I have not actually tried the reset yet as I'm not ready for one yet.

Suitable cable will cost you around £16 including P&P and VAT and the software is free thanks to Yani.

The cable has arrived but not sure if I am looking in the right place for the OBD connector or is the cable (which states OBD II on it) the wrong one! Presumed it is behind panel to right of driver's knee. I have attached photos of the panel before and after removal and one of a sixteen pin socket but appears not to be same female shape to male cable socket. Am I missing something....? Is the OBD socket somewhere else hidden under the trim?

Thanks

Hooked it all up today. Wider part of plug goes towards gearlever and light comes on within plug head when connected (at least on the cable I bought). £7.65 new off ebay item number 190329451002.

Make sure COM port is selected correctly and Latency is set to 1 as per instructions.

My mileage is 85,100 miles against 23,711km shown on software readout.

See photo for other DPF data, most of my driving is on motorways or quiet country roads at 4am so above average speed. I can confirm it DID turn OFF the 'change oil' message and red 'oil can' light which was my main objective!! :D

Pleased you found it would plug in OK and connect.

Your feedback is well appriciated regarding resetting of the DFP/Oil change status. Really good news indeed.

Hopefully the Service Reset functon will soon be available in FiatECUScan, but this depends on ELM327 and CAN support being implemented.

The good news is (I believe but don't hold me to it) that the dash Service 18K miles warning has NO connection with ECU/DPF regen/engine performance and is purely a reminder function. On the Stilo I think I drove through similar dash spanner warnings that eventually self extinguished when the car realised you were not going to take your wallet to the local Fiat dealer :)

On the Croma I believe there are about 9 pre-programmed service check points recorded in the instrument head/body computer. To remove future warnings you just have to issue 9 service resets as this will clear the system down.

I think the average distance between the last 5 regenerations (1185 km) is proving your car is in good condition and well driven!
Next oil change: 0 km should be 50000 km after the reset.
It counts down by 500 km incrediments.

I like FiatEcuScan very much, that it can reset the oil change is a blessing for owner doing DIY-maintenance. There is no other economic option I suppose.

Can confirm it went to 50,000km after reset. Took photo before the reset in case anything else changed! Great piece of kit but like S130 I hope the Service Reset is added soon.

Hi everybody.

I'm not new to Fiat as I have owned Fiat vehicles for over 25 years, even the earlier Croma's, Turbo and Non Turbo 8 valve petrol. Have owned the "New Croma" since May last year albeit not a new vehicle but an 8 valve JTD. This is my first Diesel car although I have driven company Diesels and maintained various Diesel Horseboxes over the years for my daugthers use. Had no problems with the car until recently which I suspect is the dreaded EGR problem. Had that off and certainly it was clogged with exhaust soot and the solenoid itself was virtually siezed by corrosion. That's all cleaned up now and due to be refitted this weekend. In the mean time I'm using my Fiat Coup'e. As I usually service and repair my own vehicles I'm looking to carry out an oil change soon, having done about 6k miles since ownership. My question is, where do I get a copy of the FiatECUScan software to reset the Oil Change function, the lead I should be able to find a source, and what's the DPF please?.

Kadee.

Hi,

Software available here www.fiatecuscan.net

Loads of cables on ebay or other sources mentioned on this thread.

I got mine off ebay item number 190329451002 but search for
USB 409.1 KKL VAG-COM OBD 2 II VW AUDI SKODA SEAT Cable

DPF explained here [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel_particulate_filter"]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diesel_particulate_filter[/ame]

DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) see …

Thanks to folks that posted their scan experiences – well worth considering getting a cable etc. for peace-of-mind, as my Croma seems determined to take-me-thro the well-known fault issues. Reliant at present on my independent & their OmiScan (sort of notebook type model), most recently on an EGR problem – but I’ll kick-off another thread on that issue.

Will be interested in your OmiScan thread when it appears as I looked into this kit myself a while ago.

There is slowly becoming available more kit/software covering Fiat/Alfa functions which is really good news. However Fiat/Alfa "coverage" varies and in most if not all cases incomplete compared to Examiner. Yet VAG and other kit/software is readily and cheaply available and covers all orginal manufacturer functions.

I don’t have a personal Omitec (or other) examiner - & rely on my independent’s Omitec kit.

I’ve had an early 55204250 EGR replaced today with the later 55215031 - & was curious about the DPF status … 30.5% normal. The only other results on my invoice were: Distance since last regen. = 122km (76 mls); & oil degrad. = 92%.

I had an interim oil change at 45.5k mls (now at 47.6k mls) – but didn’t have a re-set done, thinking I’d leave that until the 54k mls service.

I have just done an oil change on my Croma.

The Oil Degradation was 35% with 17,500km left before change required.

Resetting wit FiatECUScan I see.

Oil Degradation 100%
50,000km to next oil change.

YIKES!

What this confirms that Oil Degradation actually means Oil Quality.

As for 50,000 km for next oil change....mind boggles.

Now the Service counter kicks in at 18K miles and that will ensure you/dealer should do and oil change regardless.
