Has anyone changed the driver’s seat base cushion? I have 77k miles on my Croma and the base cushion has slowly compressed to the point where I feel the levers and lumps underneath! I have the leather interior but presume it’s the same as cloth to change the cushion. No heated seat or electrical motors.

Was it a two minute job or a days work? Looks straight forward but don’t want to start and then have a surprise.

Thanks

Off the top of my head I don't know. However my Croma with fabric covers certainly has zips for easy? cover removal on the back restraint part of the seat.

If other Fiats are to go by then the squab cover will clip in underneath the seat on all foour side. Normally the material attaches to plastic channel strips that clip over the seat frame.

Best thing to do is get you head underneath the front od the seat and have a good look, using a mirror if neccessary.

yes, I have replaced my drivers seat foam. Have a 56 plate eleganze with cloth trim The foam squashed and left the cloth all loose. looked like the seat had been sat on for 150,000 miles but the car was only about 8 mths old. I complained to the garage and they said they would get an upholsterer to look at it. They then proceeded to attempt the job themselves. What a bloody mess. I had them order me a new foam and I did it myself. I am an aviation engineer by trade and it was definitely not rocket science. I used very small ty wraps to fasten and tighten the cloth.

What I find about some of us engineers, car DIYers etc. is that we can so often put the so called dealer professionals to shame. We may take a little longer but that is because we research, take care and pride in our work.

I recently had my drive shafts replaced. I did check with the parts dept. that they had the specified parts the technician requested in stock and then allowed my car to be booked in.

On the due day, service reception asked if I was OK with the car being with them all day. I said no problem, even qualified this saying please keep the car overnight or longer if you need to order unforseen parts. etc.

I got my car back but the innner CV joint boots were secured with standard Jubilee clips (nice lumps of off center metal to add imballance).

Drive shaft vibration / slack was the reason they were replacing them in the first place.

Before you ask, no I've not gone back to complain. When I sevice my car when it is out of warranty this coming December, it will take me no more than about 30 minutes to put the propper compression bands on. I have to pliers and the parts will only cost me a few quid.

Having said this it makes me wonder what grease was put into the inner CV joints? Propper CV Moly grease or what ever they happended to have lying around.

It makes you wonder if you can trust garage and service team other than an F1 or WRC pit team.

The real rub is that when you pick up on something a garage has done wrong, you then become more concerned that they will perform poorly again. So you check everything they do, even to the point trying to prevent problems by concerned questions before they do a job. This leads to you being a pain, if not in their eyes then in your own eyes.

Croman, thanks for the info. Surprising how many of us Croma owners are aircraft engineers presume it is our appreciation of technology that does it ;-)

Maybe we should all get together an open a proper Fiat Garage / Dealership. On second thoughts, just an independent Fiat garage may be better as at least then we can't be commanded or dictated to by Fiat UK, who I'm beginning to think are losing the plot of customer care, respect and EXCELLENCE in everything THEY and their DEALERS do.

I've often considered becoming a Fiat Zone / Customer Care Manager for Fiat and really shaking the system up big time. However I suspect my employ would only last a few weeks. Mind you I could have a little fun whilst I'm there.
