My croma is officially dead. Hit head on by out of control loony in a van doing 50 plus on a bend. Airbag heaven! the knee air bag left badly bruised shins and contact burns. Still I walked away annoyed, he was done on the spot for due care. Looking at 2ltr Seat Altea XL as replacement very similar specs as croma.

Chao Fiat Croma

Any good spares on the wreck? :D

Glad you're more or less ok! Just think them contact burns could have been broken leg bones without the airbag...

Just thinking about the leg hairs being pulled out  (n)

In all seriousness, it's a good point - would the outcome have been different if you were in a car without the knee airbag? :chin:

Re Spares.
Cabin intact, everything from the b pillar and wheels. I am sure it will come up on the copart website soon, its at their Chester facility. Damage not helped by recovery agent pushing the car on to a transporter with the forks of a fork lift truck. The insurance company didn't seem to concerned when I told them!

The saga continues, the toerag was uninsured, so a long wait for excess and uninsured losses, no doubt it will end up being paid by MIB in the dim and distant future. Good news I've bought an 08 Bravo MJTD 150 Sport in Maranello Red fully loaded except leather, heart ruled head on this one, couldn't move away from Fiat, I have owned one since 1975.

Oh Yes I made the point of mithering the police about this. In this area if you get caught without insurance you are definately going to get a driving ban of at least 6 months. Not that that will make any diference to him. At least I will feel slightly better about it.

You must let us know of your feelings, views, experience etc. of your Bravo MJTD.

Like you I'm a Fiat head, and if my Croma were to be replaced, or saldy like yours taken out prematurely then I would be looking for another good tow car.

Bravo?
Sedici (not really a Fiat other than the diesel engine)
Doblo (only when I'm playing Post Man Pat)
Scudo (too new to evaluate)

I guess this is a generic problem with Fiats in that they are generally smaller car makers and their excelent larger models have never really sold well.

Good to hear you walked away from it, the Bravo is another strong car it seems to in an accident but hope you'll never find you. It is always amazing that those without insurance tend to be the toerags and lunatics that are rubbish drivers isn't it....

Do the MIB pay out for damage to the car? I believe they only pay for anything not covered under your own policy, so the new car will be paid for by your own insurers if you're insured comprehensively. Unfortunately this means you will lose any no claims bonus (unless protected).

Bizarrely, it seems you're better off with third party only cover now there are so many uninsured drivers about.

The insurance company told me that they would apply to the MIB for my uninsured losses after they had exhausted trying to recover monies from the other driver, (some hope!) my no claims is protected. This is the second total loss I have had in 2 years, neither any fault of my own. I am beginning to feel like I have a magnet attached to me. I am trying to put it down to wrong place wrong time. Its one way to try the Fiat range out! The Bravo is fun but I still miss the big Croma.

Glad to hear your NCD is protected. Not too much worry then.

I had a few years with a magnetic car too.

Did the police attend and record vehicle positions, skidmarks etc? As it was a head-on, could the MIB decide it was 50/50 and give you half of your uninsured losses? And (even worse) could the uninsured cretin then claim half his losses from your insurers?

Head-on crashes are always a pain. Usually one of the drivers is 100% to blame, e.g. being on the wrong side of the road, driving too fast or just not looking. However, in my experience there's usually little evidence either way and they often end up being settled 50/50.
