General New Croma - acceleration problem

Seems familiar, I recently posted on here after cleaning the EGR valve on my 2.4 after it had been running badly - "coincidentally" after using two tankfuls of supermarket diesel. I've done 5000 miles since with no problems, sounds like your old Laguna problem. I hope you get yours sorted out to your satisfaction. I'll be interested to see how much it costs as I believe the 1.9 EGR valve is the same as the 2.4 one.
HTH.

I had the EGR problem with my 1.9 16v 150. Bought a new one off e-bay for about £60 inc postage. It is the same as the 1.9 16v Vectra.

I have had only had the car a few weeks but have filled up each time with proper fuel, I have not noticed the the loss of acceleration for 6 days now.

Perhaps the proper fuel has cleaned out the EGR? I have done 168 mile round trip during this period. I will keep a log of when it happens again and report back.

Mine has only done this 3 times in the past 2 months. I'm not sure about it been fuel related as i only go to Shell for my car, but i could be wrong.

Got my car back from Sandicliffe dealer today, the fiat franchise they have has all the servicing and repairs done by the ford franchise up the road.. If only I had known...

Any way despite me being very specific about what the issue was and when it happens, all I got back was we hooked it up to the diagnostic machine and there were no codes..

I wont be using them in the future... It quite funny in one way I got in the car to drive away and guess what no acceleration... it brought a smile to my face...

Now do I go to the other dealership that is not part of a franchise (JCS at Kegworth)or the claimed local specialist (MGC Servicing)?

any thoughts...

Hmmm problem is back. This time it happened every time i pulled away from traffics lights or at a round about today. This time it was like been in the wrong gear where it slowly speeds up and then bang...i'm flying down the road like nothing was wrong, till i have to slow down again for something and try to speed up again :(

Think it's time for the car to have done what the husbands Bravo has had done to it.

Do tell, wat was done to the bravo?

Yeppeee Croma all fixed :) EGR has been cleaned due to it been clogged and i've been informed it's running fine again. Can't wait to go and pick it up.

Begs the question what happens if you disconnect the EGR. Dash warning almost certain but what happens to the performance. ECU limp mode or business as usual.

Also, for those who exeprience poor performance with no dash warning is/are minor fault codes looged in the ECU.

If / when I hit this problem I'll try to remember to post back what I find when I use my scan tools.

Please let us know what happens if you blank it off instead of disconnecting it...I for one would be very interested :D

My is back and running fine for now. I do need to replace my EGR as it will clog up again. I'll get my EGR valve replaced once payday arrives.

Just been to the local Fiat\alfa specialist MGC in Nottingham, had a long conversation re the acceleration problem, they said it could be one of two things a leaky turbo boost pipe as there is a nut that rubs on the pipe that will eventually make a small hole. They had a quick visual inspection and said it was not that then agreed it was the EGR valve, they said that they are usually replaced with a reconditioned one and exchanged.

After ringing round FIAT, Alfa and Vauxhall dealers to get hold one it would appear they are difficult to source and are on back order,. but the Alfa dealer had one coming in. The price varied depending which dealer they went to. They quoted an hour to fit, total price about £170 inc VAT.

So if you want one get your order in early...
