Hi and welcome to the forum:D
First thoughts on this would be a faulty temp sensor. Check this out first and let us know how you get on.

Hi John, do not despair. I'd bet my hat your problem is either:

1) Coolant temperature sensor (not to be confused with the sensor for the temp gauge). If you have already changed that then I guess it can be eliminated.

2) Clogged idle control valve. I know you said you already cleaned it but did you take it apart and clean all the inards?

To sort that look here... http://www.btinternet.com/~andy.brinkman/idlevalve.htm

...don't worry about adding the oil trap - it's a nice mod but not critical.

3) MAP sensor tube blocked.

To sort that look here... http://www.iisuk.co.uk/coupe/mapsensor.htm

This is responsible for over 90% of 16VT idle and running problems. Also make sure your MAP sensor tube is not split as they tend to degrade after a few years.

You need to put a pic up on a web site then link to it from your profile, or just use one of the presets.
