My advice. Don't do it.

The reality will be a long way from the dream and it'll end up deteriorating in a lockup / garage.

Buy what you can afford to run today, once you've got a stack of miles under your belt, what you want from a car may well change - and the Coupe could end up being an expensive mistake.

Even insuring it as your mum's car will be expensive unless she has a 2nd lot of no claims to apply to it - and many classic policies would exclude you from even being a named driver.

Hi Schumi2001,
Thanks for your reply! Sorry mine is late - I could have sworn I replied but now can’t find it?
I’m afraid I’ve already gone ahead and got it! I don’t regret it though...yet! Thank you though :)

Eighteen & a Coupe. They are money pits even when you know what you are doing. As pointed out insurance will be difficult to say the least. I've owned my Coupe for over ten years & have spent thousands, it's away at the moment having a very expensive refurbish. They do get under your skin. I would hazard a guess that if you really looked under the skin in the right places, it will be riddled with rust. Best of luck.......:)

Hi jimboy,
I could have sworn I replied but just in case -
Thanks for your reply!
I’ll take it as it comes, and do what I can :)
Thank you!

Best wishes,
Amber :)

Good for you getting a Coupe.

9. Classic car insurance saves a packet of cash on limited mileage.

I see this quoted a lot when advising young drivers on older performance cars.

You'd struggle to get a classic policy for anyone under 25 on a Coupe. If you did, it wouldn't accrue any NCB and would probably not be 'cheap', either!

Additionally, almost all classic policies insist on you having a 'main' car, too.

Well I did but my policy does not need to accrue NCB as have another daily car.

Hi FiatFleetFamily,
Thank you so much for your reply!
Aw thank you, these tips will come in handy!
I don’t plan on modding it much/at all, and have got to sort through the previous owners invoices in the hopes that I’ll find a cam belt change!
I’m thinking of getting the radiator support / cross-bridge from F.C.S.S on Facebook, at least a temporary fix - what do you think?

I might also get 2 rear brake compensator springs, but they’re £17 each, so I might shop around more.

Thanks again,
Best wishes,
Amber :)

Brilliant, thank you so much! I’ll join when I can :))

Hmmm, depending on the Micra, I'd possibly disagree.

The K11 Micra is a cracking little thing, especially if you get a 1.3 Super.

Whilst I love the Fiat FIRE engines, the K11 had an Alfa-esque chain driven twin-cam in every variant.

If you get a rust free one and keep it that way, it'll outlast civilisation.

I'd definitely go down the Punto route for a main car. Get 1 that's been looked after, keep it maintained, and you've got a great car. I've owned my current 1 nearly 5 years, and I hope to keep it a few more years. :)

Hi,two things, don't buy a Nissan Micra, stick with your first love and get a second fiat ! Go to the government mot history website and type in the redgistration of your new coupe ,this will give you a good insite on any problems the car has had in the past, very useful.

Thank you, ah yeah for any vehicle I get I always look into those things via the DVLA / gov website :) I’ll keep searching and comparing on autotrader!

I’m definitely taking a closer look at then - I’ll be back on autotrader soon enough!
