any help or advice would be gratefully appreciated

thanks

Welcome to the forum. :D

the advice i'd offer to you is to get the head gasket checked as i didn't and mine didn't last long also check out when the cam belt was last done as this is an expensive job.

Hope everything goes well. good luck with it as these are great cars.
love my 20vt to bits. wouldn't change it for anything :slayer:

i had a look at it today before leaving a deposit, they bought it in december for their son who can't afford to insure it, i noticed a bit of very incredibly small amount of white stuff on the inside of the coolant cap, oil is clean, they have no info on cambelt, is it a job that can be done on ramps, i have knowledge of cars but never worked on these
thanks graham

Hi Graham

i've just noticed that yours is a 16V 4cylinder so there will be more room under the bonnet so i should imagine (i'm sure others will correct me if i'm wrong) it would be a much easier job than a 20v 5cylinder where the engine has to be lifted to get access. the book time for a 20v is 16hours labour!!

good luck with yours but as you don't know the history i'd definatly change it for new.

and finally enjoy your new car. hope to see some pics of it on here soon

mine is the 16v 5 cylinder

Not possible my friend......

16v ( 4 valves per cylinder, 4 cylinder )
20v ( 4 valves per cylinder, 5 cylinder )

sorry my mistake, it is the 20v five cylinder, sorry, anyway. i have noticed that water is coming in from the interior light area on the interior roof, before i go at it like a bull, how do i remove the light section to investigate further,
thanks graham

Well a small screw driver down the passenger side of the whole unit and it will pop out.
Had to remove mine a couple of weeks ago to tighten my rear view mirror.

Ed

thanks i will give it a go

Hi graham.
You should try and find evidence of a recent cambelt change. Otherwise it would be in your best interest to have it changed.

Fiat specialists are around the £400 figure. I think this includes waterpump, timing belt kit, aux belt and coolant.

Fiat claim its an engine out job but I it is not. Can be done in under 3hrs taking your time. By undoing engine mounts and moving engine across. to give enough clearence to get water pump and tensioners off.

when you say moving engine across, do you mean taking all mounting off including gearbox mounting and moving across in the bay
