i brought a 16v turbo coop yesterday.. the car had been parked up for 7months and i started it first time yesterday..the car drives perfect. the turbo works perfect.but today when i started the car it was giving off a lot of white smoke :( it started getting less and less each minute.. is this coz the car has been parked up for so long?

also does any`1 know how 2 put a alternator belt on, is it worth takin 2 garage or can it done at home

Hi
Congrats. Did you put any oil through the plug holes and turn it over by hand first.
Put up a picture of the alternator and the belt on your car and I will guide you.

nah,i jus started it with the key. its the 16v model without aircon if that helps, another question seeing as the car has been parked for over 7months.do u think the petrol and oil has become dirty and thats the reason for white smoke?

and thats the reason for white smoke?
Hi
Generally, white smoke is steam. What is the outside temperature at the moment?
I reckon it is just the water that got collected in the exhaust over the 7 months. Should stop as you use the car. Keep an eye on it.

yeh im from birmingham still.. and thats what im thinkin coz its been parked for so long.. can some1 please tell me how 2 put a alternator belt on, i miss ragging my coupe around

i need some1 to come out and fix my car on my drive, or if its easy 2do ill do it myself if any1 tells me wat 2 do

If its getting less as car (and exhaust warms up) my guess is condensation / water build up in the exhaust. But as said it really needs a service if its been parked up for so long.

New coolant,
Engine Oil,
Engine oil Filter

at the very minimum i'd do Spark plugs and gearbox oil too if they haven't been done for a while.

I had a similar issue after i rebuilt the marea, after panicing and stripping it all down and cleaning everything again i eventually left it and it sorted its self out after about 1000miles, it was mostly oil residue from the old blown turbo.

before you go driving it you do need to service it as other have said.

I've not worked on a 16vT but the altenator belt should be simple to fit, just have a look down the side of the engine and see.

on the 20v inc turbo models there is a tensioner bolt on the altenator its self for the belt tension and thats all!

Ry

if it was the turbo...you would know about it. it would be blue you would smell the oil
its most likely water that's built up in the exhaust

plugs are easy on the 16vt
oil is easy but i would get some one else to do it as its messy
air filter is easy as well

Altenator belt is simple to change, you have to slacken off a 19mm nut and bolt underneath the alternator, then a 17mm nut on top which holds the adjuster. Then just keep turning the adjuster with a 13mm spanner untill you have enought slack to get it off.

ok ive changed the alternator belt :) the car was missfiring hard but i left the car runnin for 1hour and now its not miss firing anymore :-s why is this? also now behind the centre console i heard water drippin, i think its the heater matrix has gone? will radweld fix this or would a new heater matrix be needed
