that if a 20vT is smoking white smoke on start up that is a simple head gasket popped?

there is one on ebay, the seller himself thinks that its the HG thats gone.

or could there be other things? its a cheap car, so i might offer him and fix it myself.....

cheers :)

the seller says it smokes right from cold though - more likely the HG.

still, im thinking that white smoke whatever it is cannot be as serious as any blue smoke.

would i be right?

im gonna try and do whatever work myself, do a full service and everything at the same time.

i dunno, it still depends on what the seller will take for the car ;)

cheers

White smoke when could could just be condensation.

If it is the turbo seals it will be white-ish blue colour and smell of burned oil.

I have heard that when headgaskets go on 20VT's then its common for there to be other issues, as the water in the oil doesn't do its lubricating properties any good.

when you price up a car like this always remember that the cost of parts are expensive. I do all my own work on my coupe including cambelts clutch etc etc.

To do a Headgasket remember the cost of the HG kit, head bolts, timingbelt kit, inc waterpump are all going to add up.

Price the work up as a worst case scenario. that way you won't get stung. (y)

it isn't an engine prone to head gasket failure, but it is prone to turbo failure, so i would be expecting turbo personally.

i thought i was having deja vu but then i realised i already said this in a thread in the leisure lounge.
