whats the insurance like on a coupe iam 29 with 4 years n/c what sort of price would it be. i was taken for a drive in one when my mate was looking at another car it was f***ing fast. he told me the insurance group was 20 but ive looked on the net and some say 17 and some 20. and what mods are needed to take it to 300-500 brake.
thanks adam

Hi adam

I think you should do some false quotes on net to have a guess at what you will be paying. I am 26 with 7 years NCB Fully comp protection is about £600.

BUT it varies a lot on where you live etc so you would need to go on elephant, admiral etc to get a guideline.

Why would you want to take it between 300-500 BHP??? It would cost you a fair bit and your insurance would take a hammering.

Might be better keep it standard and see how you get on maybe add a gtec chip to bring up the BHP a little.

These cars arent something to be looked at lightly. They cost a fair bit to keep on the road and with todays petrol prices you are looking at £75 a fill up which and MPG of a sports car.

hi sammiboo ive just done a online quote with compare the market. it came back as 536 fully comp :D iam now on the look out for one lol.
the car that the guy drove me in he said had over 300bhp it put me back in the seat when he floored it. it was a yellow and the dash board had a nice gloss finish to it.i felt like i was in a ferrari:).

thats not bad at all :) As i said they do cost a bit to keep on the road if its your only car. £75 a tank of fuel etc I spent thousands on mine in less than a year. A lot of owners are giving them up now due to the cost of the up keep and the ever increasing fuel costs. Just make sure you do plenty of research and work out if you can really afford one of these. buying the car is the cheapest part of owning one.

I'd say you'd be looking at about £600 standard, and modified probs about £1K tops. I was paying £1100 on mine when I was 24 with 4 years no claims, modified to about 280BHP.
They are group 17-18 depending on the insurer. Mods wise, you'll need a minimum of about £1500 for 300BHP, that would consist of:

Uprated turbo: GTI-R hybrid, or maybe Garrett GT28R/RS
Uprated intercooler eg Pace products FMIC
3" Turbo-back exhaust
Boost gauge
Unichip
Induction, preferably with the SIP (straight induction pipe that junks the standard induction routing with a straight pipe, you need to run an FMIC for this)

you're a fair bit younger than me, but if you mod properly AND go to a good company, insurance isn't a killer.

I'm running over 400bhp and I pay about £600, but this is fully comp, with class 1 business use, 25,000+ miles a year AND an ML90 conviction (look it up - damn Welsh coppers!)

Sammiboo - what do you mean "why would you want to take it to 300-500bhp?"- there's simply no such thing as too much power ;)

oadamo - there's a VAST difference between 300bhp and 500bhp

300bhp can be done (properly) for about £2,500.
400bhp will need closer to £7,500, plus you'll need better brakes and chassis to handle it.
500bhp will need about another £5,000 on top of the 400bhp option

Its still not bad value - at 400bhp, you will have a car that's cost about £10k - £12k that is capable of 0-100 in less than 10 seconds (that's Ferrari 360 and Lambo Diablo territory) AND will do 30mpg average (40mpg if you try very hard)

However, lets be realistic, it will still be a Fiat

500bhp is a hell of a lot to put down through the front wheels. I admire you for wanting to do it, although for the money that its likely to cost I would go for a TVR Cerbera 4.5 which is faster again.. Even A griff 500 will do 0-100 in 10 seconds. I know as I used to own one.

As for running costs on the coupe, its not the cheapest car to run, but if become handy with spanners, you can keep the costs down to manageable levels (Parts only). The only thing I have paid to have done was fitting of tyres and the cambelt. I would have done the cambelt myself had I not been in such a rush because I needed transport.

i drive the works van for my everyday transport so it will only be a weekend car. ive been looking on the bay and the trader they seem cheap for what you get. the fuel cost doent really matter i drive about 500 miles a week to work and back and running around so iam used to being at the petrol station lol. iam just gonna buy a cheap one then do the engine over a few months. and see how much power i can get. i seen a blue one with dimond cut wheels in telford that looked nice is blue a standard colour its the first blue one that ive seen.

y...ML90 conviction (look it up - damn Welsh coppers!)
Can't find any reference to an ML codes
Sure it's not an MS90? (Failing to give driver's identity)

To the OP - Just buy this! :D

sorry - yes, MS90

I DID give my name & address, just not on the NIP and the gits got me for it. However, this wasn't until they had managed to "mislay" the calibration certificates for the camera equipment and had to drop the speeding charge
