Can someone help me with the recomended spark plugs for Fiat Coupe 20VT.... Right now the manual says its Bosch FR6KTC.... but the dealer here is out of stock... what other plugs can be used.... is champion 7GBYSR4 for coupe or for punto gts....

what is the plugs change intervals..... every 25,000 miles?

Thanks

Clover
Fiat Coupe 20VT, Turbosmart TypeIII DV, Hybrid T28 (48mm compressor wheel), klon chip, Custom Stainless Steel intercooler piping, K&N filter element, 35mm B+G springs, Tarox G88, AP Lockhead Pads, 3" piping, cold air feed, Apex'i boost meter & turbo timer.

Yes, I think the interval is 24K miles, but this only applies if you are running the triple electrode plugs. Single electrode plugs will need changing much sooner.

One important thing to note when choosing a plug is the heat rating, this refers to how well the plug can transmit heat away from it's electrodes and into the block. The Bosch FR6KTC has a heat rating of 6 and the Champion 7GBYSR4 has a heat rating of 7 (i.e it runs slightly hotter). Both plugs are fine for the coupe and indeed the 7GBYSR4 is a Fiat Lancia Plug made by Champion for Fiat and is fitted as a std alternative to the Bosch FR6KTC.

The gaps on the 7GBYSR4 are nearly 1mm, but the FR6KTC is set at 0.8 mm. Personnaly I think that the Bosch is a better plug and it's slightly lower heat rating is good for engines running higher than std boost levels.

There is another alternative... the NGK BKUR6ET. I've not used it in the 20VT myself but it looks fine on paper.

SpunkyM...
Fiat Coupe 20VT, Bailey DV, K&N panel, PBV @ 1.1bar.

You could also use the Denso Iridium power IK20 they are a performance plug and although there £12 a plug they will last a lot longer than standard plugs

Hi spunky Hi Timjn<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>yup ii agree with spunky on the plugs i`m running slightly higher boost (PBV) with various other mods, car had champion 7GBY RS4`s,fitd for a few months but the engine started to misfire which was geting worse,i swapped to bosch FR6KTC Dramatic change, engine now far, far, smoother and mis fire gone...........hopefully for good<img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

Pauls,
i have not installed the champion's yet.... so do u think i should wait for the bosch FR6KTC....

there's this other racing plugs called Brisk .... The price is a bit steep tho... its three times the price of the bosch plugs....

sorry for not replying sooner Clover,my answer would have to be a big yes, wait for the bosch plugs, i know of 2-3 owners who have all agreed the car runs smoother on the bosch plugs

Hi everyone, I have been fitting o.e. champion plugs to 20vt's for years with no problems until the last 3 weeks. Now fitting NGK bkur6et plugs with great results.
PS great info keep up the good work.

Fiat coupe 20vt(standard)

I need to change my plugs and apart from a chip my car is standard.

I want the standard pugs for ny car, can someone post me make and code for them?

also how much[aprox] are 5 going to cost?

I would look on the net myself but i dont yet no what ones im looking for.

Having tried them all, you can't beat NGK BKR6ET (or BKR7ET if it's tuned, these run a little cooler) else you're just paying more for the name. Whatever you do, DON'T get Denso Iridiums. Absolute sh*te (and expensive too!) They failed twice on my coop, and one coupé specialist has stopped using these due to the amount of failures on them.

Thanks for the warning, my coupe is completly standard apart from a chip that see it 259 on rr.

Is it the standard ones i should be fitting?

im told the first gtech chip you van run on a standard car unlike my evocars on my old 16vt which required the colder plugs.

after going on the ngk site i might be changing mine now as they are only a 6 where i want a colder one

their rule of thumb is

if code reads BKR6ELX it is a warm rating but if it reads BKR8ELX it is a cold rating.

I ran the 6's when I ran a G-Tech 1 on my old coop. That chip doesn't play with the advance like a proper remap so you'd be fine with the 6.

How much for them pinin?

One of the other posts, donnys i think said £50 for his.

I was expecting them to be cheaper than that?

To be honust i was thinking £25 for 5, for the normal/standard ones anyway.

I could be wrong but im sure that when i serviced my old 16vt i got 4 plugs for £15.

my plugs were ngk irridian IX wich are uprated bud dont know on the std ones if your not planning on modding it yet then id go for std plugs tb as it would be a bit overkill wouldnt it for now.
