The poor old Fiat 127 is always overlooked! Car of the Year winner, the first supermini, sold 4.5 million including Seat production, ford bought 9 when trying to work out how to create the mk1 Fiesta (look at the shape!), and out handles a Mini (as 3 journalists have told me)! What else, the 1050 will still be accelerating when the needle falls off the end of the clock (100mph), even with 5 up and a boot full of cricket kit. It still drives like a modern car, and a mk2 1050 doesn't feel anywhere near 40 years old - sounds great and will embarrass a lot of modern traffic.

... but is it cool? ;)

I'd say cool if I wasn't shaken to death in Yugo versions over the years... Sorry, biased...

Clearly nothing like the 127 then - you can't base a judgement on a mullered & radically reworked eastern bloc version, knocked out cheap to bargain basement customers. They are more fun than an Abarth GP EsseEsse - seriously! (y)

Fiat 127 is one of my favorite models... But there's one issue with it being cool.

One word, four letters that makes this car much less cool:
YUGO

Yes, the 127 is sub zero - in 1980 the Family 900 Mk 1 saved my life in a head on smash, we replaced it with a 1977 Kermit green Special.

I test drove a new Yugo 45 when they were current, having owned Fiat 127's and they bore no relation to the previous car. Drove like a truck and I couldn't wait to get out...Having a tooth abcess is more fun

Hi guys! I have a 1978 Fiat 127 down here in sunny Malta. Recently found out it's the Confort version where there's only 1 left on the road in the UK! completely original and might be parting ways soon. Also managed to get my hands on a 1975 rust free original 127. If anybody is interested in either give me a reply. Also does anybody know the best place for 127 Radiators? I am stuck up a creek at the moment as i want to change it out but everywhere i look they are sold out!!

I went to buy a 127 Sport in black with an orange stripe down the side years ago, with matching interior. That would have definitely been subzero, but I noticed the front wheels had a lot of toe-out, and there was a lot of play at the steering wheel. When I looked at the steering rack to work out why I noticed the mounts had collapsed, and my 'subzero' rating quickly turned into a 'run away' :)

Scary thing is the car was still in daily use, and given it's performance it could have been near-lethal in that condition! Looked and sounded fantastic though for a 70s car; it was an Abarth in all but name and would have given a Golf GTi a decent run for it's money (albeit not in 0-60).
