Unique with its 3+3 layout, surprisingly good handling and ermmm..... Interesting looks ;)

Cool on the basis it dared to be different! personally I hate it but love hate does not have a reflection on coolness. Coolness is the ability to not care about being different.
 
These were actually mega cool to own when they first came out. Even though most said they were ugly, they were the cool family car to have just because they were different, and actually pretty good.

Uncool now as the fad has passed and the majority left on the roads are sheds being run into the ground. Nothing cool about that...

Should have had a 20v option ;)

They got a lot of hate down to the looks, but it's a car that dared to be different and Fiat showed huge, HUGE balls to make. (compare that to now, with their 500 sell out range).

Says a lot about the owner too when they buy what is a very marmite car.

The last properly quirky thing Fiat did IMO, the bland facelift was the start of them becoming more conservative as a company.
 
I had one for a while, ironically AFTER I actually needed such a child-friendly car, and while it was very usefull (I could get 4 mowers in the back with the seats out) I ultimately couldn't live with all the WTF looks I got from all and sundry. I then bought a Stilo Multiwagon which I just couldn't bond with so moved on to the V70.
 
I voted for it as cool. There were people who moaned about its width, yet the vast majority of 4X4s and Transit type vans were wider and nobody moaned about those.

As for the styling, well you only have to look at the majority of people carriers to see they're singularly lacking in any kind of stylistic individuality. With the possible exception of the Ssang Yong Odious that is. The curve to the rear screen; the positioning of the main beam lights and the Darth Vader instruments have never been bettered in terms of individuality.

Take the badge off the front of most cars today and most people wouldn't have a clue what they were looking at. :rolleyes:
You don't need a badge on or off a bug to know what it is.
Front, back, side or rear, there isn't a car even close to it for stand out shape.
It's comfortable, reliable, economical and a pleasure to drive - it's a 6 seater car or a 3 seater van, you've got the best of both worlds.
Yeah, it's got it's bad points, show me a mota without any.
Most of us bug lovers do our own spannerin, so it's become a vocation rather than a chore, I'd even go as far as saying it's therapeutic - the feeling of joy when you've given your baby a new lease of life is a joy to behold.

This theme of individuality is an interesting one. If you go back a few years, you could tell a Bravo in the dark by its "Polo" type rear lights; the same went for its cousin the Brava. If you looked at other marques, such as VW, once the Mk1 Golf and the "Breadvan" Polo had gone, I don't think the Wolfsburg posse had a single interesting design, and, apart from the GTi, their engines were so dull performance was stunted, almost dangerously so, not only that, but they inspired Vauxhall/Opel to plumb similar depths. 1.0 litre VW = 45bhp; 1.2 Corsa = 45bhp; 1.1 Punto = 55bhp; 1.2 Punto = 75bhp

A couple of years ago I was talking to a man at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester and he was on his 2nd Multipla, this one being a Mk2. He loved it because he and his two teenage sons would go camping with three bikes and a tent, plus all the other paraphenalia that camping involved. Everything went inside. In his view, the only car he could replace it with that was roughly the same length was the Honda

Oh dear! It's almost as if a UK lighting engineer had issued an engineering report, throughout the Fiat family, stating that the best way to optimise the range of smaller headlights was to raise the height of the main beam function, (then not as prescribed as the dip-beam's position).
I'll bet he's still embarassed today - and has a wife who comments everytime she sees one! However, it's a good car and a very unique seating and internal space solution. Looks much better with the Idea-type headlamps. Designed after 'he' left
