No sound coming out of speakers when try to play music.

Did a diagnostic on DirectX. There are 3 files that are apparently out of date.

Tried to delete but nothing, unable to delete due to 'files being used by another caller' so reckons they are being used elsewhere or by another device im gathering


Updated DirectX and despite an update the problem remains.

Any ideas?

are you using onboard sound?
try http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/ the guys over there really know there stuff

tried safe mode or even a diagnostic start up?
type msconfig in the run box,select start up & diagnostic start up
restart

Reinstall your Sound Card Drivers.

This is quite a common issue as far as I am aware.

Drivers randomly going missing or getting corrupted without explanation.

Has happend to me with Sound AND Graphics. only a couple times though mind... tis when my Hdisk was dying....
