The total output of the psu isn't actually that important what matters more is the amount on the 12v rail/s.

There are lots of cheapo 500+w psus about which have masses on the 3.3v and 5v but not so much on the 12v rail.

The 12v rail supplies power to your single largest consumer (amongst others) the processor. There are many psus now with two 12v rails. Usually denoted by 12v1 and 12v2 (plus the output in amps after each one).

I'm not sure on the draw of your video card but as an idea 16a on each 12v rail would be a start.

What price range are you aiming for and what form factor is your chassis?

Oh I thought you had an alienware case.

Not sure about the Acer one. I tend to avoid Acer kit. It could well use a specialised PSU. I had a quick look at the Acer site but can't see a lot of detail about the chassis.

You might fit a normal ATX psu in anyway. Some photos might help.

TBH honest you can get complete chassis with PSU for bugger all nowadays.

actually installing a psu (assuming that there is space) is pretty easy. Unplug the mains, disconnect all the devices then unscrew the psu from the chassis. In true Haynes stylee assembly is the opposite of dismantling.

You might need a pair of wire cutters to snip the cable ties wrapping up the cabling. Likewise when everything is connected up and working (switch it on to test, then remove the mains again) cable tieing the lot together is a good thing. Helps with the airflow and stops them fouling the fans etc.

I have a alienware case, its just i dont really wanna strip acer in case i break anything as its only a week old lol, only bought it for processor n vista etc as was cheaper that buying it all seperate, will it be ok do you think? alienware case i a atx so micro atx should fit, no psu in there so i might buy one tommorow

If it works like the ones I've got then you connect the fans to the unit (it'll have four or five three pin connectors on it). The unit then connects to the psu via a four pin molex connector.

There's a chance that it will have a link to the motherboard but I can't say I've seen one that does.

everything now fit to pc, vista rating of one! Its still using onboard gfx which has give error code 43(win vista home premium)
How do i disable onboard gfx?
The 8800 is using a universal display adapter driver, will this be the problem?
