Help, I broke my PC

I never normally bother waiting for shutdown and cut the power

Then I started it up and it huge resoloution - just like safe mode, only shows grey and red colour and mouse pointer doesnt work.

I have started it up in safe mode and shut it down but it still not playing ball. Did some msconfig thing and normal start-up doesnt help, and system recovery dont do nothing either.

Help!!! , it slow on my mums comp :(

It normally takes agaes to shutdown and I think it done. I'm a busy man to wait around :p

Diagnostic startup no, but will try that next

I need hotkeys as I have no mouse to go and click :(

takes ages to shut down?... sounds like you've loaded it up with junk, even my 'slow' Windows 2000 boots up quicker than most peoples XP and shuts down almost instantly.

As for your current problem not a clue, I'm a unix person.

If you have a Windows disk Gaz you can reinstall Windows over the top without losing your data and this may sort out your problem. If you only have a restore disk though you won't be able to do this :( Or if you have 2 hard drives (or partitions), install Windows onto the second one and back up the data off the second one. My win2k install on my other PC keeps messing up so I have a dirt cheap 5gb hard drive to use just for this purpose every once in a while

windows disk is somewhere in my cd collection, will unearth it and have a play

diagnositc start-up didnt help, nor did kicking the comp, it just made it angryer :(

By the sounds of it, it is a driver related issue.

One or more drivers may be corrupt, so you'll need to go into the Hardware section and look for exclamation/question marks. Re-install the drivers for any that are marked.

to get to device manager press [windows key] + R and type devmgmt.msc and click ok. That will take you straight there.

cheers
