Just interested to know, because there are such wild figures thrown around about the user base (both wildly high and wildly low). I frequent Linux forums where naturally they all use it, but the fiatforum is probably representative of a typical PC user group in this respect.

Excluding Android of course (unless you have rooted it).

Yes, but not as a Desktop. I've got several servers I look after (both in my personal life and professional life) are running Linux.

My dad uses Ubuntu on his Laptop as it works better on the older hardware than Windows does ;).

My 4.8Ghz watercooled i5 gaming PC doesn't have that problem :D

I ran Ubuntu for a while, but got annoyed at having to basically fight it to make games work.
No, Linux is not great for games, not the blockbuster ones anyway. I dual boot into Windows for that.

Funny Ubuntu has been mentioned twice now - it is said to be the most popular distro. But it now looks too much like Windows 8 for my liking. I am on Mepis, also Debian based but closer to it. I do also have a Raspberry Pi (Raspian distro, Debian based again) running headless as my home network file server. It has been up for about 10 months now apart from my holiday break.

No, I cannot use it because the software I use & support does not work in Linux so its best left.

I will one day, I'll have to get the kids to show me how to use it then :)

Using Linux Mint (offshoot of Ubuntu) 99% of the time.Windows 7 for just the odd game and MES. (hanging out for Linux port for that.)

Has everything I need for general use. email, browsers, CAD, Office packages, video editing. I have not had to use a virus checker for 15 years.

For gaming the best option is to do it through Steam. There are a lot of good games through that. I play Half life 1 &2 for many years using it.

I can't use t because I need to run certain programs that are Windoze only.
Otherwise I understand that it would be far faster when web browsing etc.

It's a pity that there are not more programs for it by the major CAD vendors

Not at the moment (not even running Windows boxes as I'd choose to in recent times) but used to use / run / mess about with all sorts of Linuxes (virtual installs & disk installs), Unixes, Solaris. Good times, sadly missed.

Distrowatch is a good source for downloading and searching for Linux & other operating systems - they have a specific search engine, so you can see what distros are best for games or media playing and so forth.

I'm using Linux Mint on my desktop computer. I still have Windows 7 installed but I never use it anymore. Linux does everything I need except gaming. What I need to play right now I can play through Wine though so I'm absolutey satisfied.
