Damn. Are licences on their own expensive?
I'm not sure what this is?
You can dial mocrosoft and explain the whole kotherboard situation and ask for the new activation code
It's a free (as in beer) and free (as in copyleft) operating system. A Linux distribution. For all that, you may be better off with a "live" -- run it from DVD or CD -- distribution like Knoppix. Just download it, burn a bootable disk, set the pooter to boot from dvd or cd and away you go. If you like it, install it to your hard drive.
No more defrags, no more viruses, no more licences.

Not to install an OEM copy of windows onto a different computer you can't.

ok, so my Old PC used to have Win XP on it, I can reinstall that (it wont be for too long, maybe a few months) until I get the other machine back up and running.
Can I install XP onto the SSD? Are there any complications that I might encounter?
You can reinstall XP on the machine it came with, not another.
It can be installed to an SSD no problem, but, do these tweeks to avoid it killing the SSD:

You sir, are a legend.
Do I need to worry about the 'Partition Alignment'? It will be a fresh install, with no partitions.
