I have an Acer Aspire laptop which is about 5 years old now. It was becoming really slow and it seemed to be that it has a 1GB hard drive. As a result I had a local company install 2GB instead. I wanted 4GB but apparently it didn't want to know/

All was fine for the first couple of weeks but over the last few days the screen seems to have become darker and darker. It's still usable but I'm not sure for how much longer. I've had a trawl through various sections of the computer but I can't see anything that might allow me to alter the brightness.

Any suggestions before I go back to the shop?

tried holding down the FN key and clicking the right arrow key, to increase brightness?

As for you sir When I read your post I had to sit down. That would have meant................spending money. Then I realised. I was sitting down already. Actually you're not wrong. In comparison with the latest stuff it's a bit like comparing a Eurofighter Typhoon with a Hawker Typhoon.

Well, the Hawker Typhoon was at least cheaper than the Eurofighter and almost competitive with the American competition.........

A defrag probably wouldn't go amiss.......
