what have i broke?

Re: netgear router problem

There should be a button on it somewhere to reset to factory settings. Then you can login using the default username and password (google the model number for this).

Don't bother with setup discs just do it manually on the computers and in the routers config pages.

Re: netgear router problem

yeah know about re set button but was going to use that as last resort incase we havent got the password for the isp

found out what that light is it say ppp somthing or other
PPP Link

PPP Link
On -- Green
Off
PPP link is active or has reached idle timeout.
No PPP link, modem is off, or no ADSL connection

Re: netgear router problem

well that strange, i plugged lan wire from router into another laptop and clicked ie and it went straight into the router with out me even typing anything. i set up all the wireless setting again an got wireless back on router.

but now got another problem, got netgear dongal in laptop, it says conected but no net comes up, dongal box thing says obtaining network address or some thing like that.
i run repair on the conection and it seems windows cant renew ip address.

internet all still works with a wire though

Re: netgear router problem

Sounds like DCHP is turned off?

EDIT: They could have MAC address filtering on?

Re: netgear router problem

Should be under something like LAN IP Setup.

Is under advanced on my router but my router is running Sky firmware even though it's a Netgear... :(

Check on the options page for Wireless Settings, Click on the Wireless Access list option and on the dialog thats displayed see if the "Wireless Access Control" option is checked. If it is you need to add the MAC address of the dongle to the list.

Re: netgear router problem

Are you sure its not just a wireless access point? Can't remember any of the netgear ADSL or cable routers having the blue flashing lights on the side only dedicated access points.

Tell us what model and we can help you a lot more :p
I had a Netgear Cable Router with that - it's a massive blue LED circle thing which flashes as data transfers through. Totally pointless and even comes with an on/off switch ... lol
