Hi all :)

As many of you know I am going to Uni in a months time and have to consider my printing and scanning needs. Apparently my parents refuse to give me any money (despite paying for my sister's kit 2 years ago when she went...) so I have to be careful with the amount.

I firstly wanted the Epson CX6400 - seems to be one of the best all in one you can get for reasonable money. I first want seperate ink cartridges but I might re-invesitgate prices considering the lack of all in ones with seperate ink carts.

Anyone have any specific advice by any chance? I could always look at a seperate printer/scanner but I liked the idea of less space, fewer units and maybe save money on it....

Don't mention EPSON to me! I've got a Photo printer Stylus 925, which has been playing up loads recently. Now I've got it "Fixed" my photographs are coming out a few shades, including GREEN! They are vile! Argh! It's driving me round the bend. I've checked the settings etc. Tried everything! ANYWAY! I was looking at changing mine. I quite like the Lexmark All in one scanner, printer, copier, for £80. Seems quite good. But not to sure myself

Cheers GAz :) I know tesco have quite a few, if you could get me a model number I will check against online prices :)

I would go for HP without question - IMO they are the benchmark, my experience with epson hasn't been great before either. However, the ink for HPs puts them out of my league. It seems on ebay a complete set of 4 carts for the epson will be about £6-10, where are the same 2 carts (black + colour) will set me back £20 even compatable :(

I need better ink prices than that, otherwise I would go for a cheaper HP one.

Last time I used a cannon was an old BJC-600 back when they were tops, I know they make good scanners but not sure about their printers.

we used to get our canon in kcateridges for £6 each, they where comaptible
i think we had the bj-620, the boxy one

if u are going to do alot off high volume printing have u thought about black/white laser jet, i got a samsung one for £70, i have run out off toner now though nd cant afford to replace it lol

I think Lexmark are good for their Ink but then again what quality of print do you get for that. If you know what I mean. Some are excellent but then the price of the ink is nearly as much as the printer! :-Z

I've never been into lexmark so again can't comment, I always though they were the ones you got free if you bought a computer lol

Gaz, could you possibly tell me what prices the HP ones are at work please? I really want a HP now it's just the stupid ink prices....

Then again I do have an old laser in the garage I think which I would use for text printing I reckon so maybe ink price is less important....so many choices! lol

That's expensive...you can get the CX5400 (higher model) for that price I think. 3200 should be more like £80-100 I think.

I just found my old laser, got to power it up and see if it works, it costs practically nothing to print on that so it's great :)

I would look at the Canon range!

I swear by them, got a i990 at home, 2*s750 and 2*i550 at work. Ok, not all in ones, but cracking printers and all with separate ink cartridges.

I also use Inkrite compatible cartridges with them.

Avoid Lexmark, cheap as chips and the consumable costs are a rip-off.

Just tested old Kyocera FS-680 and works fine :) Got a spare 20% used toner too :)

Now i just need either a cheap colour printer with acceptable results, build quality and running costs and a ok scanner OR a cheapish all in one....

I guess i will look at canon then.

Thanks for the headsup on Lexmark. :D

Well I am going to buy very soon, looked a HP my gf bought (1215 - £70 - wouldn't buy because I do too much printing and the carts are very dear but then I think "ah but i could refill and then I go around in circles!)

The CX5400 is £105 - downsides USB 1.1 not USB 2.0 also no memory card reader but I have one on my laptop built in so doesn't matter to me much

CX6400 is £128 - downsides is cost upside is quicker printing and USB 2.0....

Ahhhh decisions decisions, i might have to settle for the cheaper one.

paul im sorry i never got back to u sooner but the only all-in-ones printer that tesco has in wrexham store is the lexmark one, im not sure off the model number buts its £79.97

they do 3 very nice computer packages too

No problems Gaz, I also saw HPs at tesco, gf bought one, not bad for the money but not as good as the epson for features and cheap ink carts.

I have just *gulp* ordered the CX6600 - not sure why it's better than the CX6400 but it's only £1.20 more, only downside is there's a wait of 1-2 weeks to get it.

What a printer!

I got the cx6600 in the end and the following is an example of how amazing it is:

Take a photo on my camera.
Take out MMC, stick into one of the readers on it.
Click "ok" it prints index of what's on the MMC.
Tick boxes of images you want printing.
Tick boxes of what size and quality you want.
Place onto scanner plate, scanner reads where you have ticked and prints the required images!

Wow!

Quality is great too :D
