Ok, so not 100% up to date on graphics cards these days, so thought I would ask the FF geek massive for advice. ;)

Here's all the info you need. :)

  • Under £100
  • Needs to do 1920 X 1200 (New Dell 24" on the way ;))
  • Be passive cooled or low profile Thanks to Gigabytes board setup.
  • ATI Only
  • Used for Emulation creation, photo editing, video editing, etc NO GAMING.
  • Direct X 10

Thanks in advance. :)

ATI HD3850 (y). You can get a ATI HD 3870 in your budget if you look hard but seen as though you said no gaming there would be no point (y).

24" 1080P monitors FTMFW :D. I've had mine about a month now and I can't believe how much I was missing out on lol.

Hmmm... Ebuyer is £1.05 out of my price range. :chin: :p

Was looking at this 3650 tbh... (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/140585/) Has good reviews and people are mentioning it going in a media set-up, and reporting size a 17cm. :chin:

Also a graphics score of 5.5 in Vista. :chin:

What do you think Christine? :p

Eh I got my ATI HD 3870 on ebuyer for £105....

Edit: I think that was a special offer now gone up to £125....

That one you picked would be ideal as your not gaming :) (y). And as you say form factor and cooling is an issue so that would be fine it meets your requirements and its nearly half your budget :p.

Sorted then. :)

If it doesn't fit, I'm gonna throw an old case at your ass. :p

Can get my new case too now. :D Seeing as I have an *extra* £50 to spend. :D

Oooh, thats another thing I wanted to ask you before I purchase, how is the noise with the Thermaltake case you got, cos I like the look of it but was wondering about noise...

Put it this way the whole system is quiter than my older watercooled PC which just has 2 fans.... (y)

It comes with two 12cm (smart case fans). Its compact yet roomy even for me with my 5 hard drives  .

Right off to buy that graphics card, Thermaltake case and a Corsair 520W PSU. :D

and bam, £150 odd gone.

u talking to Stu on msn?

also do you have 2 different comps with same background?

You pay for what you get :p. And that PSU I bought that everyone slagged off owns tbfh. Got 2 DVD burners my uber spec PC and 4 harddrives and it isn't even struggling .
I bought the 500W version and it struggles with a E2140, 2GB, SATA DVD, 160 GB HDD. But I think it's dodgy tbh. Cos when my uncle put his cheap 300W in, the PC booted  and no BSOD. :)

Right im no expert on computers but why do you need a high spec card i wouldnt imagine that it would be of much use or is it a simple case of only the best will do because that is my interest and it doesnt matter if i need it or not.
Cos we all suffer from that syndrome(y)

you can play better games. look at things in more detail. put your computer on a 50" screen and it will look great. and so on(y)

Because even though the system won't be used for gaming, it will need to be a decent spec because of the size of my monitor and the graphics I will be processing. (y)

Try cleaning up a hi-res photo of a fruit machine with on-board graphics.

Yes you need a decentish card for rendering 2D when you working at 1920x1200 Desktop Res. This aids rendering refresh. £50 is a bargain that card :).
