Used to be about 3meg but Orange have decided to cap us to 2meg in the day and 0.5meg in the evening because we've gone over the fair usually policy limit

considering thats over 54mbps wifi and from the slower of our lines i cant complain. other line is 24mb but is a trail so have limited usage on it.
plus cant complain at any of this considering we dont pay for it

Umm latency it is. A domestic wireless access point (usually built into a broadband router) can add 20ms. Which in gaming terms is a s**t load!.

This would be true years ago but not with modern wireless devices. My Laptop works exaclty the same as my desktops. No "lag" in games. Same with wireless connection for my xBox 360.

Trust me even "modern" wifi access points can and do add lag. But as you said recently its not as bad.
I noticed a radical reduction in lag from an average of 85-90ms to a datacentre in my country while using a 8yr old Netgear Router to my recently upgraded cisco router.
Now Im getting 24ms to the same server.

Look how pants the upload and latency is
upload smupload,2mb+ sec download and a healthy share ratio means im fine
