get some sort of compressed air, can or compressor? or maybe a hoover and blast away any of the dust, dont put it too close, keep it at a decent distance as not to damage anything, make sure everything is connected correctly and boot it up.

If its been kept somewhere cool let it get to room temperature first, but if its been kept somewere cool/cold you maybe have problems, as we have one in the office damaged due to thermostat going in the office and it getting to cold for it.

If it's been in a cold place the Hard Drive would probably go and take a few other things with it.

But if it's been in a warm-ish room like you said, should be ok. :)

Just boot the bugger.

Dust shouldn't be a problem since it's not been on to draw any dust into it.

Also it would need to be cold, we're talking freezing to damage the hard drive. Biggest problem could be out-of date anti-virus and OS patching, so boot it off any networks first.

Hmmmmm well we are getting there. But now needing help again :( It all fired up fine, everything is as I left it and all components work grand :) Except I can't seem to access the internet on it :(

It's showing as connected to the network on the card's software and to an LAN in Windows (2000 you understand so no direct wireless networking), signal strength 80%. Even with the firewall off I can't get hold of any websites or even the router via its IP address :( While the card and windows show it as connected to my network, when I access the router on my laptop, I see only the laptop connected (assuming that is what DHCP clients means) and I have checked it isn't a banned MAC address (in fact it's in the authorised list). So, anything simple I have missed? Very occasionally it shows a flicker of life and throws the odd packet somewhere but that's maybe once an hour or so :(
