haven't read the whole thread couldn't really be arsed just thought i'd mention my mates a technical advisor for x1/9 think it's the same club, his links at the bottom on my signature he's always getting muppets phoning with daft questions, olly vayle i'm sure some of you x1/9 people would have heard of him.

Not sure whether you're for or against the Owners' Club, but Ollie's a First Class guy ... what he doesn't know about X1/9s ( & many other things ) isn't worth knowing ... & he loves the yellow ones :) :) (y)

bringing this thread up from the dead!

i'd just like to point out this is the quote we got that was on a thread on their site recently regarding a Uno Turbo Engine conversion!....

"Sadly a lot of these cars have been in the hands of kids with lots of enthusiasm but little technical ability. Read the UT section of the Fiat Forum, or even worse, the Turbo Collective forum; you'll see what I mean."

as you can imagine, we're not happy about this at all as they really have no clue as to the extent we go to to restore and modify these cars.

We have never said a bad word about the x-19 and alot of us are fans of them and even have a section on turbo collective for them. Their comment is/was really unfair towards us!

Theyre very bitter about the Uno getting a much better engine than the door wedge! :D

it appears the main bugbear is that while they charge a hefty fee for use of their "forum". that the cars in question are the be all and end all, their usage and upkeep to be entrusted to a cabal who are to be revered above all others. FF and TC do the same for free, which allows for a healthy exchange of ideas, debate, ramblings, etc. something which is slightly easier for FF to do with a much broader range of cars included, but is still carried on at the TC on a smaller scale. there is no pretence that the answers to your question, on styling, technical, mechanical or anything else to do with your car is some dark secret to be jealously guarded, metered out to a select few, as and when you are deemed worthy to receive it. come on either site, understand and pay attention to the rules (i'd be the first to admit TC is a bit more....boisterous!:p), ask away, and sure as salma hayeks voice is like honey in your ear, you'll get help and an answer.

The issue that I have is with this particular bit.
I am yet to meet anyone who has been born with the knowledge to fix and modify ANY car, let alone the X1/9. If they feel that by not helping out those 'kids' they are doing themselves a favour, then they are deluded.
If they are unwilling to pass their knowledge along to the younger generations then that information gradually gets lost, bit by bit, and so do the cars that have been modified without the help of 'those in the know(TITK).' And those 'kids' who have that enthusiasim, without the encouragement of 'TITK' will lose interest, and the passion for these beautiful cars will be lost.

Oh yes, I'm one of those who are enthusiastic, but without the technical knowledge. Luckily, I have someone who i can call on who does have that knowledge and is helping me to learn, instead of being selfish. :)

a general pooling of resources would seem to be the way forward rather than holding on to information like its, in a festive analogy, gold, frankinsence or mirh...(wtf is mirh anyway...???....)...im sure the baby jesus would much rather have had some mystical information on tirbocharging an x1/9 rather than a load of old gold and smelly stuff, no??....

Thanks Dunc for taking my comments out of context. I posted that not long after reading the thread I mentioned below regarding road traffic accidents and blame. I did actually amend my original post (before it was put here by Dunc) as I realised it was a bit strong. Let's quote a bit more from that particular thread...

Forum member who has just bought an UT engine: "Bits have been taken off and gearbox split (in the boot) to aid extraction and with a quick look over the unit, if this has had a service and gasket change in the last 200 miles, I'm a Dutch-Chinaman!! the oil was sludgy-black and lumpy as well and the new belt was greasy and damaged..
I have removed all the UT engine mounts and gearbox linkage as I assume these are not required.
Thanks to Rachael and Alex for your offer of spares, I am missing loads of pieces to this jigsaw and will be in touch...."

After further examination of his acquisition, forum member who has just bought an UT engine: "I cannot believe people are so tight that when they replace stuff in or on an engine, they are too bloody tight to replace with proper gaskets and use silicon sealants ... ok maybe on some air intake stuff, but the bleedin sump and crank covers ffs..."

Me: "EDITED! - Sadly a lot of these cars have been in the hands of YOUNG WHIPPERSNAPPERS with lots of enthusiasm but little technical ability. Read the UT section of the Fiat Forum, or even worse, the Turbo Collective forum; you'll see what I mean."

Forum member who has just bought an UT engine: "I have tried to register there so that I can ask questions if need be but have not received an account activation email yet, maybe its as I click the 'born before '96' .. I'm deemed too old?
To be fair, it doesn't look like a bad bunch really ... just mad enthusiasts like ourselves, trying to get the best out of their cars."

Me: "Maybe I sound a bit disparaging, but some of the threads I have read on the forums are frightening. I'm also not impressed by members who after running into the back of their mate's car, blame their mate's driving! I suppose I'm just a grumpy old woman."

I have been a member of both the TC and Fiat forums for a few years now, and I don't think anyone could accuse me of keeping my knowledge to myself. This talk of the X1/9 OC withholding some sort of secret information like some cabal is utter drivel by people who made ar$es of themselves and got chucked out of a small insignificant club, and who should take it on the chin like grownups and move on. There are plenty of X1/9 OC members who like me, give their knowledge and assistance freely here and elsewhere.

I apologise if I have offended anyone on the TC or Fiat forums who don't deserve such comments. Feel free to have a go at me if you wish.

X1/9 owners don't get bitter, they just get even. Uno Turbos are great cars, and all respect to the likes of Jai, Leigh (with the mad Mini) and WayneGTS, but UTs were just lucky to be around during the hot hatch war. Whatever you do to an UT it will never be as good as a car with its engine in the correct place, i.e. in the middle. Fiat's politics cut short the life of the X1/9, but the potential of the chassis has been demonstrated many times. Check out the exploits of Johannes Graversen for instance (and he used a Fiat 1.4 turbo engine).

All the best

Rachael

so i should be prepared to be savaged by a dead sheep then?

now that's a bit rich, considering most of you want to dump the boat anchor you cart around for our engines.......as for being lucky to be around....:ROFLMAO:, for someone who claims to know a bit, you don't half talk a lot of ****

Jai, I take it all back.

I really hope you are trying to be funny. I don't need to "claim to know a bit" to expose your lack of learning. The "boat anchor" is what your wonderful piece of internal combustion engine technology in your hopped up shopping trolley is based on.

You should try reading up a little bit about the history of Fiat before shooting your mouth off.

Moderate that if you wish.

i know they are the same, but why is it since i drive a shopping trolley to all these shows, i get x19ers asking where to get and how to install an uno turbo engine? must be something about the shopping trolley engine? and btw: your posts show exactly the kind of attitude i've been hearing about your club. just because you have an engine in the middle, don't kid yourself into thinking it's a great car, handling masterpiece to rival a ferrari or lambo. all that weight in the middle? generally comes down to the sack of **** in the drivers seat., "get even"? threatening? give it your best shot,

Whoosh

This is getting boring so I'll just say this: Read the posts properly. I'll summarise to help your comprehension. The X1/9 forum member had bought an UT engine claimed to have been well maintained. Upon examination he found it to be a maintenance disaster. I commented that many UTs have been in the hands of young persons who although very enthusiastic were lacking on the technical side.

Can you really go through the postings on TC or the Uno Section of this forum and deny that? Reading posts about guys who have parked their UT on its roof and blaming everything else but their driving skills - you can almost hear the biting of tongues in the replies! I didn't start by denigrating the UT; if your attention span can manage it, have another read of this thread. Dunc, yourself and the other clowns started the slanging match. Now you are using personal insults, implying I talk sh*t, and the latest news is I am a sack of sh*t who can't drive? Does my butt smell too perhaps? Exactly who is being oversensitive and touchy here? I don't know you and I don't care to know you. Your avatar that insults a host of bereaved inner city families tells me much about your character anyway and your childish posts above only serve to support my original comment that started this pointless thread off. And you're a moderator for God's sake??

Oh, and if I wanted a Ferrari I would buy one. That's not what it's about.

Double oh! You just congratulated someone for buying a boat anchor for their Uno. Keep digging.
