After much thought I’ve decided to move on my 1995 Fiat Tipo 1.4ie S.
The car was bought as a parts car for my 16v but turned out to be a bit too good (and I got attached). I used it as a daily for a couple of years, including two Festival of the Unexceptional outings, but it has now sat unused since December 2019. I’d like it to go to a new owner who will show it the love it deserves!
I’ve done a fair bit of work to it since picking it up off Facebook (it was going for scrap if no-one had bought it). I’ve a fair bit of paperwork, including some original paperwork from the suppling dealer (Gray’s of Warwick – weirdly where my father worked for many years) and various bills from its first long term owner (one of my primary school teachers…).
The Good:

There aren’t many Tipos of any description left and I’d hate to see her broken up – I’d rather do that myself if anyone is going to!

The Good:
Optional ‘safety kit’ fitted – seatbelt tensioners and drivers airbag
Central Locking
Manual sunroof
Front electric windows
Replacement cam belt at 85,500 miles (April 2018)
New water pump
New radiator
New alternator
Recent spark plug change (and spare ignition module)
Recent new front brake pads
Fairly recent new exhaust and catalyst
Recent replacement front anti-roll bar bushes and drop links
Replacement tailgate struts
Boot floor/inner arches not too bad compared to many of similar age
Drives very well and is surprisingly quick.
Very good fuel economy (did a tour of North Wales in September 2019 with no issues)
The not so good:
- The clutch is quite high on the pedal
The nearside inner wheel arch/sill end has come away (see photo). The sill itself seems very solid but the wheel arch doesn’t look so good. The O/S was repaired at the same time as the welding patch but again the inner wheel arch isn’t great at the bottom (non structural bit).
Paint lacquer peel – the o/s is far worse, both door tops and under window sill (see photos).
Bodywork damage – I don’t think there is a straight panel on the car – see photos! The roof has some dents (possible footballs?), the bonnet has a dents all down the o/s edge. Most other panels have some kind of scuff or parking dent etc.
Both front seats are quite badly worn – the drivers is the worst (see photos) with seat covers fitted.
Has a replacement (I think Lancia Thema?) indicator stalk that is brown and not quite the right angle (it sits a bit far back) but works fine.
Missing the odd bit of trim (such as aerial mount, grab handle etc) – nothing that stops it going.
Has an aftermarket remote locking unit fitted – this works when it wants.
Battery doesn’t seem to hold charge for very long!
Sunroof has a habit of leaking of car parked with nose downhill…
No radio (original wasn’t included when I bought it sadly)
Non-Original wheel trims (the ones fitted are off a Marea) are scuffed /cracked
She’s been sat outside since December 2019
No current MOT
