If you are seriously looking to buy one of these lovely, sexy little Italian sports cars, please do read on… You will probably not find another vehicle in as original and solid a condition as this one. In 1967, Road & Track called the Fiat 850 Coupé "one of the handsomest, best-balanced designs ever seen on a small car” and the Coupé was also known to be one of Enzo Ferrari’s very favourite cars.

We are pleased to offer this original, genuine and highly desirable Series II Fiat 850 Sport Coupé, LHD, first registered in Italia in 1969. It truly is a time warp/survivor vehicle. This is a three owner from new, Italian home market registered vehicle and is the sought after Series II with the uprated 903cc engine, updated sports interior and chrome bumpers/over-riders. Being first registered in 1969, it is also UK tax exempt.

PRICE AND PRICING:

When the condition of the vehicle is sound, the Series II Fiat Coupé Sports have become an appreciating investment over recent years, with values climbing steadily. We have carried out an extensive analysis of the market in November 2018, and have noted the following averages:

A) The average registration age for the Fiat 850 Sport Coupe is 1969.
B) The average mileage is 65,000 Kms
C) The average asking price is $12,048

For comparison with our vehicle for sale, please find the following information:

1) Our vehicle was first registered in 1969, as per the average.
2) Our vehicle mileage is a genuine 15,429 Kms, 50,000Kms less than the
average.
3) The below average asking price of our vehicle is $11,994.00 (to include shipping to the US).

Having spoken to several international auction houses on the matter, we understand that some potential purchasers are at times concerned about the shipping costs involved in moving a vehicle from Italy to the UK, across continental Europe, or to the US, this is why we will cover the cost of shipping from Italy to New York.

As an additional point, for all UK/EU/US buyers, the cost of the necessary Italian de-registration document process is included within our asking price. There are no additional hidden costs.

Please do also bear in mind that this is a very rare, low mileage vehicle, unrestored and most unusually, completely unmolested. The warm Italian climate has been a huge factor in the preservation of this lovely and original vehicle which unusually for most Fiats, has almost no rust within its chassis and bodywork.

The car is in its original factory Rosso paint, and has the original black factory fitted sports interior. We have fitted a set of black over mats to protect the original factory carpets. The dashboard remains intact as per factory specification. This is a genuine unrestored, Italian sports car “survivor” which has been well maintained over the years. The vehicle also has the original paper handbook, full factory tool kit, warning triangle, jack & brace along with factory spare wheel.

FULLY DETAILED DESCRIPTION:

1969 Fiat 850 Sport Coupé. In excellent condition for the year.

Bodywork: Generally, in excellent condition for the car’s age. There are a couple of areas of superficial rust, which we will detail later.

Paint: In the original factory red, not repainted. The paint is in very good condition, apart from a few blemishes, which we will also detail later.

Interior: Once again in superb condition considering the year of the vehicle, as you will see from the attached photographs. Original black vinyl, 2 2 seats, original wood effect steering wheel and gear knob, separate rev counter and speedometer binnacle. Please do note that the rear facing edge of the rear seat vinyl has failed, and we would recommend the use of either a vinyl repair kit on this area or a re-trim of the seat facing. Other than this the interior is in fantastic original condition.

Instruments and Warning lights: All instruments and warning lights appear to be functioning as do the working wipers.

Heating/Cooling: Engine runs at a constant and stable temperature. We have not tested the heating system, but all piping and connections appear in good condition.

Exterior Trim: All chrome work is in very good condition, although as one would expect from a 1969 car, there is some very light pitting to some chromed surfaces such as the bumper over-riders, but overall nothing to worry about and nothing will need a re-chrome. All bright work good.

Doors: Not tested for leaks, but all look sound and serviceable.

Engine: Original 903cc Series II engine as fitted to the car from new. The previous owner, a family friend of ours mentioned that “the car has not been started for many years”. Our engineer fitted a 30 cm length of new fuel line, four jubilee clips, a fuel filter and a new battery and the car started literally on the first turn of the key! Benefitting from such a low mileage, the engine runs really smoothly and sounds lovely. Oil change carried out, and air filter fitted. We have not fitted plugs, points and leads etc as the vehicle runs beautifully on the original fitments.

Manual Transmission: No odd noises or weird sounds, there is a little play on the gearstick compared to a modern car, and also a small drivetrain leak, both of which can be expected given the year of the vehicle.

Suspension and Steering: Compliant but sporty ride, all solid given the age of the vehicle, and the steering has the usual amount of play from vehicles of that time. Shocks and wheel bearings seem fine and are normal for the vehicle age.

Brakes: Braking system bled and new fluids. Handbrake works. All good.

Wheels/Tyres: Original fitment alloy wheels, all in excellent condition. Pirelli tyres, all in good condition. Spare tyre again in fair condition.

2018 Vehicle Inspection: In November 2018 our 850 Sport Coupé was inspected by a retired certified UK MOT tester here in Italy and his assessment was as follows: “The Fiat 850 Sport Coupé is a well maintained car, with no significant leaks or problems to speak of, the chassis and bodywork are in really good condition for the year, with a very small amount of superficial rusting none of which will be an issue to make good. There are no signs of any accident repairs having been carried out. The suspension and brakes are in good condition, all belts and hoses are in good shape”.

Car History: Amazingly, the car has only been owned by three owners over the last forty six years. The family of the previous owners are known to us.

Miscellaneous: The car has the original paper handbook, Italian parking disk, spare wheel/tyre, warning triangle, jack and tool kit. Also included with the vehicle is a CD Rom workshop manual.
