The scene: Mate from work is leaving us for a new job, last night was his leaving doo. So i set of to pick up a girl who i work with.

Problem 1: Get about a miel out of town, in my sei, and the clutch cable snaps on a bank. So start in second, in gear with some difficulty and drive home in second, with some tool sucking on my exhaust fumes.

Problem 2: Get home jump in my mums sei, get to within 2miles of my destination, and the "oh ****" light comes on. There was no coolant in the car. I top it up and were off again.

All this, and i cant have a drink when i get there. Would recomend the comedy nights run by the ST1 club in stoke-on-trent though.

Thats why you should never drive on a night out! lol

So now i have to replace the clutch cable in my sei. I did this less than 3 months ago, just wandered whether i was unlucky due to the poor design or whether there could be more sinister reasons. Secondly i need to get hold of the plastic bolt that secures the clutch cable in place in the bay that is used for the adjustment. What do i ask for at the factors?

Cheers

Neither really, you arent unlucky as youve only repaired one, there are some on maybe their sixth, seventh cable on here

Nothing sinister either as you mentioned the reason why it happens, the poor design

Changed the clutch cable on the sei yesterday. However still having some problems:

1. 3rd gear wont stay in. You can put it in, but it then grinds and pops out.

2. All the gears feel hard to put in, like when not adjusted enough, but the cable is tighter than before.

So, my dad reckons the clutch is furbared, and thats why 3rd wont stay in. Is the cause or is the gearbox nailed to?

If the clutch wasn't dissengaging properly, then the gearbox will suffer as a result. It might be ready for a new clutch, but this is down to how smooth the clutch feels and how much you have to push down before it dissengages. When the car jumps out of gear it's either not going all the way in due to problems with the selector cable, worn sincromesh or selector forks.

Are these problems that mean i need a new box?

The clutch i think is passed it!

really if the clutch cable keeps snapping, the clutch is probably on the way out. ital be putting extra stress on the cable, hence the snappage (n)

Make sure your adjusting the new cable properly. you might be setting the pedal too low. This could cause it not to go into gear correctly, making it jump out or be tricky to get it to actually go in.

Where abouts in cheadle are you? :p

i had the smae probs in my cinq, had to force it into gears, it crunched changing from 3rd to second and going into reverse, i have the clutch adjusted and its been fine (touch wood)

Will have a look out for you when im out and about. How come uve moved to cheadle then?

I will have someone close at hand when everything goes pete tonge in the future then.

Cheers
