anyone done this?

i recently got a R reg cinq - the lights were working fine but then they just packed up - luckily someone told me they weren't working otherwise i wouldn't have noticed

i have the replacement switch (got it from a fiat service place)

it's deffo not the bulbs or the fuse

just wondering if replacing the switch is simple

i know it's somewhere down either on the brake pedal or near it (somewhere under the steering wheel anyway)

i have a very limited ability to fix cars

i'm just signed up by the way so hello

cool

i just hope i can do it quickly before i have to drive home on the south circular after work tonight - i hate driving a car when i know something is wrong with it
(shouldn't have got another fiat then i hear you shout!)

here's hoping for a two minute job (i'll post up here and let people know for when other people have this problem)

I only just thought of my excellent idea but here it goes:

Stop tailing idiots by taking a fly lead off from the aforementioned switch onto the steering wheel. When someone is tailing you, press switch, brake lights come on but you floor it and they are left wondering what to do lol.

Disclaimer:

Not really saying you should use this method!

hehe paul, like it! I have that same idea with the reverse light. Wouldn't it be cool if someone was tailgating at 80 on the motorway and all of a sudden you slow, illuminate brake AND reverse light![}:)]

OHHH YES!! That's a darnsight better than my idea! Well done! Or disco lights, flick a switch and all of your rear lights (including fog) flash randomly, doubt anybody would stick too closely then.

*Goes off to wire in two switches for secret reasons on his steering wheel* HAHA! Now who will stop me from doing 30?!

well i fixed my lights

turned out it wasn't just the switch that was knackered (snapped in half actually)

it's in an awkward place to get to, up above the brake pedal (i'm over 6 foot too so it was a squeeze getting under there) but once i started it probably only took 10 - 15 minutes and a small amount of swearing to replace it.

however this didn't fix the brake lights as hoped so i checked the bulbs again, one of which was black! the other (typically, the one i looked at when making sure it wasn't the fuses or the brakes) looked fine.

i replaced them and all is sorted

now it's time to get all the other little bits fixed

GOod job :)
