As it was a nice day, I decided to take another look at the exhaust rattle that seems to mainly happen in reverse, and also when going very slowly in 1st gear, up on the ramps then for a gander.
The bottom rear mount was looking a bit iffy, the bolt going through the centre of the rubber was not sat properly in the bracket, it was almost falling into the cut out and when tackled with a socket it wasnt tight, the rubber itself wasnt straight either, I could undo the bolt but only slightly after which it just seemed to turn, so I decided to remove the whole mount and see what was wrong, upon removal it was evident why the bolt would not undo - a nut with spring washer on the top, the rubber was in as new condition, so I took it apart and welded the nut onto the top washer meaning that it was now captive & when the centre bolt was tightened, the nut would not slip. Bolted it all back together using a proper sized washer on the lower part of the mount so that it was all square, and it was perfect!! the exhaust still needed tweaking slightly in the centre but now its rattle free and smoothness now restored, and best of all .... if didnt cost anything!!
