Hi

Recently purchased a flywheel (think it was a member on here that used to own a certian imola blue turbo cinq :D ) for my sei 2000 SPI. Im sure it fits as someone has said on here.

My dad is gonna lighten it. Ive read the posts and know how to lighten and what parts to remove from and how much to take off thats not the problem.

Ok heres the problem. He phoned up a motorbike engine tuner who owes him a favor for him doing some work on a caravan LMAO (this guy tunes engine for the level below superbikes so he knows what hes going on about hes even talked about removing my valves and getting them balanced:eek: ). Anyway he expalined to him the situation and he replied he needed the crank shaft to completely balance the flywheel.

Do any of you guys know how your flywheels where balanced and if so is removing the crank neccessary for balancing. Or an explanation of how they would be balanced, cause with my kart flywheels i give him the crank aswell and he balanced both to each other.

Do i need to go to this extent to get it balanced or will balancing it without the crank be ok for this aplication.

Balancing is probably more than you need on a road car. If its being done, it makes sense to do the crank, clutch cover and flywheel together. Of them all, the clutch cover --- being made by far less intelligent robots (or cruder processes) than the crank or flywheel -- is most likely to be out of balance. A bike specialist might over look the clutch cover.

Generally, the parts will be assembled, dowelled (so that they can be taken to bits but not re-assembled out of balance) and balanced as one unit.

What you need to consider is whether you want to do an engine re-build (which pulling the crank will pretty much entail). Also, if you really want to keep up with those baby Pugs, you'll need a torqy motor, rather than a high reving screamer.

I'd say lightening is probably all you need.
 
cheers fingers (always answering all techincal questions) thats exactly what i was thinking, ive asked some of my other friends and they have just said basically the same. (Much apreciated fingers)

Anyway, my mate has a crank form a seicento same year lying around, and the guy says it may be possible to balance only flywheel and clutch to a standard crank as im getting new clutch too, obvoiusly for wear and overhaeting reasons of light weight flywheel.

Do you know how similar the cranks would be, cause i dont really wanna do a complete rebuild and if balancing to a similar crank would be worth doing?

And i know it wont keep up with the pugs and 1.6 saxo VTR's (well i can dream) but it might out do a 1.2 sxi + (once ive bought and fitted mkcritch chip, 866 cam, flowed inlet, induction,40mm tb(already fitted) and lightwieght flywheel) thats all i want from my little sei. Hopefully she should go past em anyway.

Surprisingly an engine delivering ~90 lbft and bhp in a Sei gets you competitive with a stock/riced Saxo VTS, 109 GTI down the twists, the 30bhp or so less will hurt it at the fast end of the straights though. Remember a Cento carries a ~200kg weight advantage over those two ;)

I'll add this is from personal experience...

the wifes cinq would outrun a 1.2 sxi and fiesta 1.25 with just a superchip
