My standard horn sounds gay, so they had a 'twin deluxe electromagnetic horn' in halfords for a knock down price of £5, so i brought it just to see if it makes any difference to my noddy mobile

What i need to know what is my horn type, is it:

Positive Activated - no power, they use a bulb tester
Earth Activated - power

on appearence although it has a connector on the end of my original horn its has 2 wires/ earth activated.

I would like to make sure before i make any cuts

thanks

Hey I'm in the middle of fitting the same horns. I reckon it's Positive Activated with 2 wires but I didn't have the ignination on when I tested it (DOH)

I've got 1 of them hooked up just now cause it got too cold last night to get the whole circut hooked up cause I was haveing alittle trouble

How do you connect the relay to the 12volt supply??

or it says that u can fit an inline fuse wire direct from the battery with a 10amp on it

Gaz you are right the standard horn sounds very gay[xx(]

GoGoCinquecento, your burning up the quater mile!!

im too scared to fit it myself, my last attepmt at wiring resulted in a melted switch and nearly set my car on fire.

I will wait till 'null n void' fits his so he can give me some handy hints

Ok, HELP NEEDED

I decided to give it a go myself, evrything has gone to plan so far, hold horn off and new horns connected up together.

How do I get power to them now, the instructions say connect realy to horn wire. Which one theres 2, a black/white one and a black/purple one.

Would connecting the relay to this power the horns cause it doesnt really say wheather it will or not, cause it wants u to use a spare 10amp in fuse box or an inline 10amp power supply.

If anyone can help please reply below

gaz

EDIT:

After having another look, i need a live cable and one for the horn, so im thinking that one of the wires is for power and one of the wires is for the horn. Am I right, if so which is which

if you are on about the relay it should have 4 points

2 are for the section that activates the relay

the other 2 are for the setion that is activated by the relay, and uiam either terminal can be power or horn as long as you put one on each.

use the 2 wires that are there for the old horn, attatch them to the compressor unit (airhorn compressor), then replace the Horn relay(unsure where it is on a sei) with the one you got with the airhorns.

If it doesn't work first time, swap the compressor wires around and then it should give you a loud toot![8D]

the relay is all wired up correct, according to wiring diagram, am just stuck on these 2 wires and 2 spaces left on the relay

Ok I aint had another look at mine yet been workin all day and away to make ma supper now but enough about me :)

This set doesn't have a compressor I dont think it's airhorns ( given the pack says electromagnetic horns ;) )

The relay sorta has 4/5 points numbers 30, 85, 86 and 2 87's

I tried the relay straight into the old horn wire but can't get any sound out of them that way

If you hook them up in a circut with out the relay then you cxan get sound out of both but it's s**t.

I'm gonna have a look in the fuse box to see about putting the relay where the old horn one was but I cant see that happening when I go to pick up me bird I'll reply later to say if it'll fit or no

Until then can someone tell me how you'd connect something to the 12volt supply? All the instructions say is "connect to the 12volt supply, this can be done with a spare 10amp fuse in the fuse box or through a inline fuse thingy" not an exact quote I know :)

"You know the world is going crazy when the best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the Swiss hold the America's Cup, France is accusing the US of arrogance, and Germany doesn't want to go to war!"

same as me really stuck on the 2 spaces left, 1 for 12v supply and 1 to the HORN, i will be going out later and give it another go

UPDATE

Theres power getting to the relay cause we can hear clicking but no sound coming from the horns, what can be causing this???

Another thing we have re-wired to earth activated, which takes the earth back to the live feed.

The horns are working as we wired them direct to the battery and both are blowing :)

Help, cause i cant drive the car anywhere as i cant put my old horn back cause i cut the wires

gaz

You need two 12V supplies. One from the original horn to work the relay, which you have cos the relay is clicking. You also have the relay correctly earthed on the switching side, or it wouldn't click.

The other 12V supply is the one to make the horn work. This needs to be a minimum 10 amp supply for electromagnetics or 20Amp for air. Carefully attach a short piece, maybe two or three inches (50-75mm for young people) heavy enough cable to the positive terminal of the battery. Then an inline fuse of the correct rating, then more of the same size cable to the switched side of the relay. Last connection from the relay is the switched heavy cable to the horn, or compressor, then to earth.

Cheers

Its Working:D

ITS EARTH ACTIVATED

For some reason it wasnt working with the power supply from the horn black/purple wire. So I just blanked that and removed fuse from fuse box.

Wire them up EARTH ACTIVATED like on diagram.

Take Horn No.53 (i think) and attach it to the black/white wire on original horn wire.

Take a wire direct from battery with in-line fuse to No.30 on relay box, the earth should also be running back to battery if wired up correct.

If you want to find a spare line in fuse box then it can be wired up this way. I didnt have a clue what I was doing and it was cold so I left it.

Fix it all in and earth it, give a quick toot on horn and make your ears bleed:D
