I would have used the guide on here but the link isn't working, anyway i'm thinking of downgrading from a MK2 Punto elx to a Seicento (maybe sporting) and was just wondering what advice you can give me about buying one. I need something to last a few years, what sort of lifespan am i looking at with these cars, i heard they don't last for too many miles. Any common problems? As well as financial reasons, the other reason I want a Seicento is cos i kind of miss my old fiat panda, i had the most fun in that car, no one quite makes small city cars like the Italians :D

cheers for any advice you can give me,

that's not a downgrade  its an upgrade ;)

The 1108 Cento engines are the same as the punto 55 & they will do just the same amount of mileage

The Sei is just basically a curvey cinq and there are thousands of them still on the road,

go for an 1108 the sportings are the most fun and if you buy well you will get years of faithful service from one.

Being a fiat they do have there quirks and one of two weak spots (clutch cables for one) but you'll be use to that by now

Decent sportings can be found for just over a grand, and at relatively low mileage.

Abarths are more sought after, but sportings are slightly cheaper but abarth kits are available

Early seis to about middle of 1999 (although actual end date is not known) had red keys as standard, 2 blue keys thereafter. Some also did not have PAS either, later models it is electronic

Clutch and handbrake cables are pants. So is the fuel guage readout. Fuel guage, you have to live with, the others are easy fixes and not expensive

Shouldnt have any rust as they have galvanised bodies from the off.

Theres a few seis that are just creeping or have joined into the '100k+' club.

Regular maintence and servicing should see them last a long time
