Anyone have the link for the fitting guide for the performance air filter? I seem to remember seeing it around a year ago, it had pics & words and was very very useful and good. Lookin to fit to my Sei Sporting....
anyone know where to get em cheapest? the 57i kit.

thanks

Fitting guide of a K+N - Take out of box, check forum, notice loads of threads about how it is poor in terms of poor performance due to sucking in hot air, think about it, contact GSR, ebay The K+N

:D

is your an SPI Sei ie before 2000?

Fitting is easy, where abouts in Scotland are you?

Liam

Liam, im in Edinburgh. Where are you? Its an SPI model (April 2000, pre facelift)

is it worth fitting? Apple says it sucks in hot air?? Wot does this mean? i thought it made it better. Fitted one to my old Mk1 XR2 yonks ago and made great deal of difference.

It's sitting directly on top of the throttle body. Right above the hot engine/manifold etc. There's two downsides. Sucking in the hot air (less dense, lesser bang) in this position, and also, being so close to the throttle body, optimum power will be achieved at around 12,000rpm.:)

Okay okay, the K&N is in a stupid position as stock but that doesn't stop the filter being half decent. Get a piece of pipe and have the filter sitting in the gap between the gearbox and front bumper (front right hand side of the engine bay looking at the bumper).

Although its perfromance is lacking on the cento engines, the noise however it makes is a good one, so if not in a quest for ultimate performance from your air filter then the K+N is decent on that front

Ah, Edinburgh, so you will have had your tea.

I am in Glasgow, ish, welcome.

Is the 57i kit not the one that puts the filter down in the front corner of the car, rather than on top of the TB?

Cheers

Again nout wrong with the filter it's all about location, in stock location on a punto it really hit the mid-range hard but the top end was better unless you mounted it on the end of a pipe in a nice cool location under the bonnet. If you're buying a new induction kit then go get something decent that (kinda works) out of the box, the budget option is that Focus kit & there are various cheap to not so cheap generic enclosed filter systems best is generally considered to be the GSR kit.

rallycinq, the K&N 57i sits on top of the TB in standard config.

bah, well i liked my K&N,

Didn't do anything, but it sounded good :D

It's OK, but

Nope. And the 57i is surely the one for the MPI.

In which case the kit for the Focus is probably a better bet. A search for Focus here will reveal the url of the place that sells them on Ebay. Noisier than K&N and engine feels torquier. Cheaper, if anything. A few of us and alot of the Punto folk run them.

K&N, as a filter have traditionally been used an A LOT of cars - they are de rigeur on Classic minis, I've seen a fair few Rover/Ford V8s with them fitted, MGB B series, Triumph Stag V8s, Pintos............the list goes on. The problem with the induction kits for the FIRE engines is that of their placement; i.e. directly on top of the TB. Too much heat is the killer of performance, which is why on Centos the K&Ns have a bad reputation. If the 57i was similar in design a la GSR, then I feel that the K&N would enjoy a better reputation on this forum.

Oh, and if you do decide to go for a GSR, Peter can be a very hard man to get hold of (IME - I never had a reply to any of my PMs; in the end I, and my money, went elsewhere - this isn't intended to put anyone off, it's just a caution) but the GSR is a proven piece of kit and worth the cash :).

so should i go for a GSR then? What brand is this, where do i find it? IS it good? Easy to fit? etc etc...

Walk to bin.
Lift lid on bin.
Place K&N inside bin.
Close lid.
Forget about a K&N for ever more.

NOOOooooooooo dont do that with the K&N :nono: dig a hole in the garden and plant it and soon [with any juck] it will grow and produce many more filters ...these can then be harvested and sold on ebay to the chavs :D and you will make muchos profit (y)
