General K&N Air Filter fitting guide/prices

This is doing my head in.

First, establish whether the car is SPI or MPI.:bang:

Second, remember that any induction system is just a filter attached to some tubing and some silicon hose.

Thirdly, if you're buying one, the alternatives will differ according to whether it is MPI or SPI.

For the SPI there's at least one panel filter, the Polski stuff on another thread, GSR, maybe the K&N on a pipe, and the easy option of knocking your own up using the bob off the ohv motor.

For the MPI, there's the GSR (if they've actuallygot it in production fortheMPI yet), possibly something made in Poland, the K&Ns and the Focus kit.

Fourthly, will you feel any difference? It's debateable...........;)

I know your all saying throw the K&N in the bin but why, you can't be looking for performance gains on these little motors surely, your unlikely to get anything out off them anyway.

I'd say, save your money, get a few years no claims under your belt and then buy a turbo engined motor and play with that, you'll be much happier with the results, trust me.

If you really want to mod small engined cars, look at what sounds and looks best as it's going to be mainly cosmetic.
Obviously try to locate the filter somewhere cooler and fab a heat shield and a large diameter cold air feed pipe or two from the front for it to help too. So if it's performance your after don't spend any more money and fit the K&N for the sound!

you might be looking for performance gains. but we are certainly not looking for reducing performance by sucking in hot air from the top of the engine. besides why buy the K&N when the focus kit is nearly half the price and tons better
