nice pics ::yum: :worship: : a proper sleeper look but with a bit of attitude

whats the cat off? or if new what spec is it suited to? for example is it a sei 1.1 spec or suited to the emisions of the 1368? on other forums people are using sports cats etc but from what i can see that isnt one ? surprised you havent or is it cost related?

also what bore is the exhaust all the way through assume its gonna be bigger than the small 1108 pipework?

progress looks good is this gonna be ready for the shows this year? would love to have a look at it :)

good luck with the progress

The CAT is a Rover KV6 cat, so bigger bore and flows better as its meant for a 2.5L V6, a CAT branded as a sports CAT is often just that, a CAT meant for a bigger car. And modern CATs do not restrict cars anywhere near as much as people are lead to believe, they are pretty good these days.

The system is all bespoke, so gone for same size as the pipework from the SuperSprint manifold which is I believe about 50mm, whereas even a group N OMP system for a Sei is 40mm.

thats one thing i like about projects like this every part is being done to match and most parts are custom rather than bolt on jobies or shortened originals etc

i have been told by two exhaust places that i have had quotes from for a stainless exhaust system for the arosa to not bother with a decat pipe "as you gain stuff all on the more modern cars and certainly not enough to justify ripping it off each year for the mot" just not too sure myself cars are greener than ever so somethings restricting them:bang:

i'm interested to know what it'd look like with gold compo's on.

would look like a miniture scooby :yum: theres a pic about somewhere of a red sei abarth with the abarth 14's in gold and it looks quite smart :D

Sorry to jump into your thread but can you have a look here and possibly post pics of yours, and let me know if you had any problems with fitting it in? I noticed you still have your driver headlight out ;)

You progress is looking great though!!! I'm going to get a CDA or DIA in a day or two. Are you runnign custom house from the TB onwards? I was going to try and get a Punto one to fit mine, but I guess thats not an option for your larger TB!

Another question ;) .. I'm leaving my SS manifod unwrapped and not bothering with a heat shield, as I've heard wrpping can cause fatigue of the SS joints!! I don't want an ugly shield though ;) Are you taking the same approach?

Still got the rest of the exhaust to sort yet! Lucky me ;)

Cheers,

Kristian

We removed the headlamp as matter of course as these cars are much easier to work on with headlamp removed, it was then apparent that the screw would foul, so we removed it.

We run full cam cover though it has been modified and does not foul the cross member, i donot know if Emma has any pics of it, sure she could do some.

Manifold will be wrapped in graphite impregnated wrap, held in place with s/s tie wraps arriving this week. Bottom water pipe also has heat protective sleave on it where it comes close to manifold/rad.

induction kit pipework will be custom in polished alloy.

Photos will be VERY much appreciated! I'm sure I can trim it down with a dremel, or, remove it for now, but all the soulutions so far in pics, are def a bonus.

with regards to the wrap..this is the thread I was thinking about. Guy Croft seems to not his stuff more than most! I thought wrap would be cool and tidy things up but after that and £260 I'd rather keep the manifold, and wrap everything else :D Just foor for thought ;)

I Pressume the CAT itself is not SS? I think I will go the same route but with a 1.2 Punto CAT instead.

Cheers for your help peeps :)

Well i tried to take photos this evening, but there really isn't much to see as its rather hidden. Sorry about that. But you have the right idea, all you need to do it trim it down to fit. You should take to Aaron about that because he did mine!

Oh new goodies arrived at my work today all the way from GPR silverstone :p . A cherry bomb diver silencer and a slightly smaller cherry bomb. We are putting two in to and make it less noisy but, with a nice note ;)

That looks :slayer: (y)

I have BMC now as well :D the <1.6, 70mm inlet. Is that what yours is? Looks mighty big in the bay, bigger than mine, although I haven't fitted mine yet.

Where did you find the metal tubing?? As I have standard TB with 70mm entrance and 70mm CDA I was just going to get a Samco 90 or 45 degree 70mm bend. However I guess the metal will be cheaper, or at least stronger. I can find straights but not many curves.

I also remembered you tapped the thermo for the temp sender. Did you not have a tappered plug in the head right next too it? I did, and am buying an adapter for it soon.

Nice to see you coming along, faster than myself thats for sure!!!! Once done I'd love to meet up and make comparisons and give myself ideas :D

Keep it up...

Kristian

Hi Emma is sure that the BMC is a >1600cc.

The induction pipe is slightly cheaper on its own than a silicone one, but works out dearer in total once you add on joiners, especially those s/s joiners that we got which are a very nice finishing touch, but you pay for it.

The pipe and joiners was bought from http://www.green-filter.co.uk/ one 90degree 70mm bend, and two s/s joiners.

As for tapping the thermo, can't remember about a plug in head, but it was very easy to tap thermo and assures a good position for the readings to be taken from.

Exhaust is coming along great, wiring we think is there, or there abouts, so picking up oil filter engine and gear box oil today to get it ready for an imminent start up.

Let's hope she fires up first time then :)

Can't wait to see this in a show :)

This wee car gets better and better: all it really lacks is a supercharger!

Just a couple of picky points. ;)

Button heads rather than caps on non structural mounts to flat panels, please!
(This from the man whose ECU is held on by duct tape! ) And, slightly more seriously, I'm worried by how close the edges of that engine cover are to the breather hoses. Carbon sheet is pretty abrasive (nothing like as abrasive as Kevlar, but....) and it's almost certain to wear through them in no time. I'd suggest trimming with a file something like the red lines:

If I were casting it, rather than cutting from sheet, I'd put a little lip on the edge (and cast in the badge!). :yum:

Meant to put that filter is upto 1600c not above 1600c as I did before doh!

The breather pipe is not actually as close as looks in picture in final placement, and its smooth alloy plate 3mm thick with real carbon fiber sheet with 3M adhesive backing stuck to it stuck on top, so not harsh carbon edges, just nice smooth alloy that can't cut through anything, didn't want it to be solid carbon as it can lead to nasty cuts if you maybe slip taking oil cap off fo instance :D It also sits a little higher away from ignition lead tops in final bolt up.

Yeah we would have used button heads, have about 60 of them as well in s/s just none the required length, as they need to be long about 60mm and only have 20&30mm, see what turns up.

Aaron :)

That engine and car is amazing...

very nice and tidy engine bay..

i'm in awe.

Right the exhaust is complete, dad has custom made this bit by bit and welded it all together. Just needs attaching to the car now.

This photo shows the original bore of the sei exhaust next to the new bore which is 1 3/4"

Also Aaron was busy doing the manifold wrap, which i helped do :)

I bought new oil and gearbox oil and gaskets for inlet manifold and exhaust manifold. These are now in place and oil is in the engine, and also coolant is in. We are very close to first start up people :D
All we need is Chris from 1320 Autos to come over to set the ECU as a professional needs to do this before the car is attempted to be started.
