Wondered how I remove the igniton barrel as my key has snapped off about 1/2 way down?

Got to try jewellery pliers first, but if not im gonna try removing the ignition as see what I can do from them. See if i can shake it out or take it to a locksmiths. Obviously cant move the car otherwise I would take it straight there.

Will it affect my aftermarket immobilier if I remove/change the igntion barrel?

Thanks in advance
James

Just spoke 2 Fiat they said £500 pounds to replace the barrel and all the locks!!!

Seems way too much any ideas as its an urgent problems as I have no car!

Could i just get a key and ignition barrel from a scrappy and fit it?

I've not taken a Cinq one off, but a Punto one has two security bolts with a cone head, there is no easy way to grip them, so either weld something on the end (take care about grounding so as not to blow ecu) or you may be able to grind a slot into the end with a dremel (angle grinder will be too big to get close) and then unscrew it with large flat screwdriver.

No the key wont turn, its set to off, got a mobile car locksmith coming out later £45 to remove, no charge if he cant!!!

Better than Fiats £500 quote

I've removed two ignition barrels from Cinqs, one the original style, one the newer style with different stalks etc like a Sei as the barrels are different when doing my stalk conversion on blue as the steering columns are different, and therefore needed the barrels changing.

I managed to remove both, and reuse the "tamper proof" bolts with nothing more than tools found in the average tool box, didn't take long either.

Aaron.

So Aaron, do you reckon that the columns are dismantleable? I have play at the top column bush and was wondering if it's replaceable like most f*rds are?

The whole column comes out very easily, one bolt on universal joint at the peddle end, two bolts holding top half in place under the steering wheel couling. Depending on which type of column it is, the later type (Sei) is in two sections that just slide over each other.

put key in turn ignition on. at about a key lengh down the plastic barrel is a button, push that in and pull on key

that the metal catch that only pushes in with the key in the MAR position? I tried that but there's something else holding it in,
