Hi, I was driving back from work in my 998cc Cinquecento and the power began to decrease. I couldn't go above 40 and the injector light came on occasionally. It does start but won't rev. Any ideas?

Sensor related maybe? Lambda (sp) or maybe MAP sensor?

A diagnostic may help.

Other suggestions will follow

It had been really low on fuel and after refuelling the problems started.

No idea, I've only had it a few weeks. Is it a job I could do myself?

I had the same problem last week.

I have a new fuel filter fitted, so dont think it could be this. The car also had new plugs and leads 500 miles ago.

I purchased a new Bosch Lambda sensor and a used (unknown quantity) MAP thingy - am going to fit saturday 2nd Dec and will post my results..... Fingers crossed.

Also, when starting from cold the car seems to only be running on three cylinders - So going to check the resistance of both the coils to see if there is any difference between the two.... Anyone know what the resistance should be and where it is checked ?

Sucess !!!!!!

Fitted new Lambda sensor, second hand MAP sensor, new MAP to Throttle Body vacum pipe and connectors and a new set of NGK plugs.

Followed the Haynes book of stuff with the 20 min disconnection of battery, followed by running the engine at tickover until the cooling fan comes on for the second time... etc...

The engine is now fantastic - very smooth and responsive - Missfire has gone, Injector light comes on with ignition key and then goes out in a couple of seconds not to be seen again....

Please find below the correct Bosch part number for a Lamda sensor to fit a Cinquecento and Seicento...... The only difference between the two (according to Bosch Technical Helpline) is that the Cinq one has two twin connectors, and the Sei has one quad connector. They are both Four wire sensors - 2 x white, 1 x grey & 1 x black.

Please follow the cable from your Lambda sensor to the loom - Under the MAP sensor to see if it's the twin or the single connector. Also, before removing the Lambda sensor - give it a good soaking in WD40, AC90 or similar - then make sure the exhaust is warm as this will help.

Twin connector :- Bosch 0 258 003 222

Single Connector:- Bosch 0 258 003 579

Just been rung by the garage and apparantly there is no compression in two of the cylinders. He reckons it could cost at least £300 to repair as he would need to strip the engine down. The car only cost £380. I am gutted... Any ideas?
