hi guys;
problems braking on 899cc cinq.

I had brakes serviced recently;
they changed brake fluid and installed new:
- front pads and rear shoes;
- mastercylinder
- bled the brakes (at least 3 different people!).

It has been several weeks since this was done.

nevertheless, braking is problematic: when idling, pedal feels more or less normal and soft! (i forgot what it should feel like) but in the event of braking hard, the pedal gets resistant (builds the pressure back and the car doesn't stop accordingly); not when the car is idling! so I have to press my foot harder.. :confused:
I almost got myself into a crash ..

someone suggested that it could be due to the vacuum system?

please help..

Yes, sounds like a vacuum problem, possibly a duff servo.

how do i make sure that it is a servo?
if so, can i replace it and how much would it be?

thanks

With engine off, place foot on brake pedal and pump the pedal until it goes firm. With foot still on brake start engine. Pedal should go down a bit, not all the way to the floor.

If the pedal doesn't move its the servo.

The servo is only a braking aid, your brakes should still work alhough you needc to press them harder.

I have no servo on mine.

Servo is about an hour to fit, sorry don't know what they cost.

Cheers

Cost around £115 for a new one...

On the back of it is a valve (which only costs £5), you would want to checkout all the pipes before splashing out on a new servo too.
