Hi all,

I'm halfway through changing a clutch cable, and can't work out how the heck I'm supposed to get the two nuts off of the cable at the gearbox end. Their covered by a white plastic thing. I thought, maybe if I twist the white plastic thing it would drive the nuts inside, but this just spins around (found out after twisting for ages, got a sore thumb now and it hadn't moved).

So, maybe it pulls off? I tried, it doesn't move anywhere, unless I'm not pulling hard enough.

Would appreciate a quick reply so that I can get the driveway clear again.(y)

Stupid digital camera, I got a better quality pic from my phone lol

The white thing right on the end. Semi circular where it meets the 'padding'. I can see the nuts are being covered by it.

Just asked a techy mate. He said he thinks what you've described as the white bit is a 17mm plastic nut.. (with a dome bit inside the lever?)
Hold the plastic one in place and crack off the other nuts..

Just see the pic.. Pull it though to get some slack, hold the cable and it should just unscrew..

Sounds like the techy got it. So you're saying to hold the large plastic one in place, and somehow undo the nuts inside?? A socket won't go in there, nor will a spanner.

Hoping to leave the dremmeling option out until I've exhausted all other means:devil:

EDIT for mase: I'm holding the metal part of the cable with pliers, it is the plastic part that is spinning.

Have you tried pulling the cable through for some slack and trying to wind the plastic nut back in?

Hiya mate.

All done and new cable in! It literally did just unscrew. The whole lot. It makes it a whole lot easier (found this out when putting new one in) to shove a screwdriver under the pedal to make the cable go slack. The plastic nut screwed in so much easier, rather than me having to pull with the pliers to get the slack.

Thanks all for the help!(y) Now to fit this new horn...
