I ask because my 57k Cinq.Sp. makes a grinding noise from the rear (assume its the brakes) and mechanic says they usually dont go before 80k......
 
Depends entirely on how hard you use the brakes. Your mechanic is obviously very gentle! I can guarantee to have mine down to the wear limit in 50k or so, others will do it in less.

If it's making scraping noises from the back, yours are well past the wear limit, better get the drums checked out, too.
 
Depends on driving style or previous owners driving style.

They go when they go, end of story.

If you have sticking actuators they will wear down very quickly.

They also won't adjust properly when they are only about half way to the metal.

I think your mechanic can't be bothered with the hassle of changing them. Most mechanics would be up for the job as its easy money.
