When I resprayed my car two years ago, I took the VIN plate off from over the headlamp to prevent it getting damaged (I fitted twin headlights and welded a support plate to take the new lamps). To cut a long story short, I forgot to refit the plate and can't find it anywhere and when I sent it for its NCT test (Irish version of MOT) they won't pass it since the VIN plate is missing.

Yes, I know I'm a dufus so no need to point it out.

Anyone know where I might get a blank VIN plate? I have a set of number and letter punches so can fill in a blank one with the right numbers...

I'll give FIAT a call after lunch - the plate in the boot has a number which is vastly different to the VIN number on the reg document. I showed it to the inspection monkey but he wasn't interested.

Cheers for the replies!!

That is actually rather more worrying.

I thought so too - I doubt the identity of the car has been changed and I remember taking the original plate off and I didn't notice anything unusual about the rivets holding it. I have two other Cinqs and I must check if the number in the boot matches the VIN on them. It would have been checked during the previous NCT on the car, before I sprayed it so should be in order. I'm just going to have to make one from an old Coke can...
