Hi,

Got a problem . Finally got the wife's Cinq back on the road after a scare in Coronary Care recently!! Long story!!

I've changed the engine and in doing that, I dropped the whole engine gearbox and drive shafts out and disconnected the gear linkages etc. Is it possible this has caused the inhibit cable to become detached at the gearlever or something? Does anyone have any pics of what I need to look at/for??

Thanks in advance!!

If you pull down the gear knob gaitor you should be bale to see it.

Check your clutch adjustment as this is usually at fault when you cannot select reverse.

Can you get into all other gears ok?

Hi frenchwood,

Yes...just reverse??! All forward 5 are fine.....(2nd has a habit of snagging sometimes if you aren't careful - but that's been like that from new (Sept (97))

Clutch is brand new (y) and adjusted to the mm according to the manual......any pics would be useful before I begin ripping the thing apart again....:bang:

Thanks,
namb

This weekend I fitted a new clutch to my Daughters Punto.
I thought I'd share the problem I had.
Everything went well. Stripped out the gearbox and replaced the clutch and built it back up. Went for a test drive and all seemed ok till I wanted to reverse onto the drive. No reverse gear.
Much scratching of head later, I removed the selector cover from the top af the gearbox, which sits below the battery.
The gear select dog which pushes/pulls the selection bar had dropped out from between the selector arms and would not push the selector at all to engage reverse.
Once I repositioned it between the selector arms and replaced the cover-
Presto Hey! Reverse gear.
Hope thats clear. It's easy to do but hard to explain!
