Hi guys,

well had my cinq for a while, paid £150 for it,needed a few things doing to it,

done the following ,changed wheels ,fitted sportex oval backbox,lowered 40mm,fitted new locks,fitted sporting interior,painted dash,cd player,6x9's ,debadged,de-wipered

now the only problem with the car really is that it will fail its mot on brakes if i put it in for one just now so ive bought a load of brake parts, and started on the front, done the drivers side no problems, went to passengers side ,needs new caliper as its fooked, will be arriving on sat from rallycinq.

went to the rear to start on that today, with a bit of persuasion with a hammer and file the drum came off,got the shoes off,and found out the handbrake steel levers are completely seized so they will be getting replaced,

is there a guide for fitting the shoes, etc on the rear ?

people probably think im mad for spending all this money on an 899 but oh well, its the 1st car ive had and im not scared to empty my pockets into it,

What exactly has seized? The shoes or the handbrake pivot?

If it is the levers, they are £8 a piece from FIAT (Usually a two day wait).

You should be able to change the shoes using a haynes manual. if you havent got one, either buy one off ebay or your local factors, or Halfrauds. If you don't wanna splach out, most libraries carry a good range of haynes manuals.

When changing shoes be VERY careful with the springs. They are high tension, and a few years back i had one come off a 205 gti 1.6 and belt me in the face just below my cheekbone, it caused a helluvah lot of bruising... i was lucky i didn't lose an eye!

Good luck!

whats the best way to pull the springs on to the shoes?

and its the pivot lever thats seized ,might be able to free it as a temp solution though,

The ideal tool is a strong flat head screwdriver with a V cut in it. A good pair of mole grips comes in handy, too.

On mine it's a permanent solution. The trick is to drench in WD40 and work them till they're really sloppy (bash em with a hammer if you have to to get them to move). Then wipe off the WD and work coppaslip into the pivot. Do it properly and it'll last as long as a new one without seizing, longer than a new one without coppaslip.

A good couple of pairs of Mole grips should do the trick if you're strong enough that is!!

I'd go with a new set and copper grease!!
